Well, that and a total lack of use of the middle of the field and a disdain for the slot position.

the first time i saw us properly try to use the slot at all came with camp today and all he did was essentially just go up the seam - why dont we diversify ever and actually use the slot and attack the weakness (often times) of a cb group

I just want a OC who throws the ball downfield when the top 3 receivers are deep threats. I'm tired of playing the short passing game with receivers who struggle with complete route running to get open. They were drafted and are getting paid for their straight line speed and we don't even utilize their strengths.

Even Marty said the team needed to start off faster and open up the offense more last week... Guess what the team went back into the same old same old the first few weeks. I really do think a coordinator change would be great. But I'm not sure if Roman would be the answer. The team needs someone younger who knows the new NFL philosophies and one that understands that players need to be utilized to their strengths or of course they will struggle. This is just a repeat of Trestman all over again.

At some point, the head coach must account for signing off on each offensive coordinator. HE, as head coach ought to have a vision offensively and see that is implemented.

My biggest complaint about Marty is simply his conservative play-calling when it comes to getting the deep passing game involved. Even if the ball falls flat on the ground at least you back up the safeties, but without that you're simply playing to the defense strength. Outside of that, he's done well with the run game and I like his run-heavy approach, we lose an over-whelming majority of our games when Joe throws 40+ passes. He's also not that dependable anymore and isn't even aggressive himself.

You watch ANY other team in the NFL play and it is like they play an entirely different sport on offense. Every other team finds guys wide open down the field. Marty plays like he is on rookie mode on madden, either hail marry or curls flats. It isn't Marty's fault however our qb stares at Fuller for 5 seconds than just chucks it.

Exactly. I watched a good portion of other games yesterday. Every team finds at least once one WR wide open for a gain of 30+ yds. I mean even the Vikings and the Dolphins made some plays. Both of them had a good running game and both QB's are below average. Heck even the Jets made great plays and they cleaned the house. The Bears Defense is good, but for us to score a TD everything has to be perfect on that drive. If this is another losing season, Ozzie should cut/ don't extend several players. The current system hasn't been working for the last 4 out of 5 seasons.

The issue with Wilson was literally just height. Everything else screamed first round talent.

Wilson had a high release and huge hands and played much bigger than he is. He also didn’t fumble much in college and played in a pro style offense. Mike Shanahan wanted to draft Wilson in the 3rd round to back up RG3, however Seattle beat him to the punch and they ended up with Cousins. Cousins would be perfect for our offense.

Harbaugh said the coaches are doing everything they can to put players in position to make plays.

“You’re in it together. The players are in it together, the coaches are in together, we’re fighting together to try to do it,” Harbaugh said.

“I think anytime you try to pin the blame on one person in a team sport like this, that’s always been a big mistake. That’s nonsensical. It just doesn’t work that way. But I understand that’s how it works [on the outside]. We all understand that.”

Talk about short memory and double standards. It was pretty sensical going to SB after firing one person.

i feel like my intelligence is being a little insulted with that 'nonsensical' line - as if no one had thought about the implications of the OC job or what the impact of a change would be or being able to pinpoint a difference between execution and bad coaching/playcalling - and tbh the worst thing about it is that its treated as an unfair question - it is entirely reasonable to question the job security/culpability of the offensive coordinator on a team who's offence is as anaemic as the ravens

the only thing here could be that harbs is putting this all on the players and he's angry that the awful execution is causing the questions... but idk

Maybe he has no say in it? From memory, and if the rumours are true, Bisciotti demanded a change in 2012, for all we know if it's up to Harbaugh, Cam would still be our OC.

Most if not all coaches and players are two faced in their pressers. We don't know what is said behind closed doors.
People who feel valued and appreciated will work harder than those who are belittled and demeaned. 100% of the time.
If Harbs spoke to the press and bashed all those guilty ( which would be pretty much everybody ) Most players and coaches would feel he was a backstabber trying to humiliate them publicly.
These people are professionals. They know what they are doing. I am pretty sure Marty knows he shit the bed sunday. ( I said pretty sure not positive ) No one wants to lose. No one like to lose. Most competitive natured people ( which would be 98% of the players and coaches ) take losses personally.
It is none of our business what goes on behind closed doors at the Castle.
I think you are completely naive to think all the coaches are skipping down the hallways hugging and kissing each other at the castle. They are not idiots. They know there is lots wrong. They are just not going to publicly throw someone under the bus . Which I think is how it should be.

Just because Harbaugh doesn't go all Jim Mora, Mike Singletary or Herm Edwards (all of whom have questionable records as coaches) in the pressers doesn't mean he doesn't know something's up himself. It's not satisfying for us as fans, but tbh I'd prefer someone who publicly backs his guys no matter what his personal opinion is.

Though with that said, as far as we know the call to stick with Marty was Harbaugh's call, which would make it his bed to lay in. Just that his presser comments don't mean an awful lot.

I'll give Caldwell some benefit of a doubt since he got fucked by a horrible o-line in 2013, and still did more than Trestman's year 2. But the others (Pees, Trestman, and Marty) have ranged from mediocre to awful.

Yeah Harbaugh blasting his coaching staff and players is not something that if advised most of the time. You don't see coaches shoulder blame on a person. Behind closed doors there might be a completely different conversation going on.

Didn't Harbaugh back up Trestman a couple games before his firing? I don't think his backing Marty holds any water. If nothing changes the next couple games I think he is gone. I personally like Harbaugh for sticking up for his players and coaches in front of the public. But we all know behind the scenes he understands those coaches are in the hot seat and something needs to change.

I hate Marty M. I hate his play calling and everything. I personally want a change at OC.

im not sure its the hiring thats the problem - its the picking the right guys to keep - we've had some promising assistant coaches be allowed to leave because we dont promote them - think teryl austin, leslie frazier last year, hue jackson all of whom were good coaches but we allowed them to leave because we valued the stability of the guys in the spots above them too much (and were wrong to do so)

It's not that they were allowed to leave, if they are offered a job at a higher level you can't block that move and you shouldn't be allowed to either. It works both ways.
