Fire Marty

They have a Super Bowl hangover for 2012 instead and then end up in position to take Desmond Trufant, Deandre Hopkins, or Xavier Rhodes.
Everything could've totally changed and we wouldn't even be in this position today. Really fascinating thinking about all of the different possibilities.

Agreed . It was a nice run for Harbaugh but his time is up . One ring , should have had two .
harball needs to hand over the head coaching reins to a new coach and take over special teams. he did a good job there today. hes never been a head coach. he was surrounded by talent when he came here and that carried him. that and some fortunate free agent decisions. namely corey graham, Bernard pollard and cary Williams.

now we got guys like weddle and Jefferson and some arguing they've improved us.

Someone needs to explain to me why whenever it is third down, even if we need one yard it's time to get off the field. For other teams, just chuck it on 3&15 and move those chains.

I feel like our offensive issues go much deeper than the OC and canning Marty halfway through the season won't change the dysfunction by itself. Granted I was one of those people who thought keeping him on was a turrible idea when it happened, but the only reason I'd be in favour of dropping him mid-season is if we wanted to give an in-house guy the inside track for next season and see how they go.

We need an offensive identity and we need to actually build around that. You can find a long list of sides that actually know what they like to do and they make their personnel fit around that (and there's a pretty strong correlation between that list and the playoff contenders). Whereas we've got a WCO OC, vertical WRs, run-heavy TEs and I'm not even sure how you'd sum up our OL. We need to make an executive decision about what kind of offence we want to have, we need to find an OC who can do that and we need to start looking at cutting or trading every player who doesn't add value to that picture (not necessarily all at once, but you get the idea). Personally I'd say that aside from Stanley and maybe Yanda, no-one's position is safe. Hopefully it doesn't take so long that our current generation of defensive players has reached and passed its prime in that time.

And I think it's time we started having one eye on Joe's successor. When his contract becomes easier to move there'll be a fair bit of literature about how new QB contracts are handled, which will help. If the right guy falls to us I'd like to see us pull the trigger, but I think it's still too early to look at giving up Trubisky-level hauls for someone or to go full Cleveland and start reaching for people who have a bit of potential. Personally I'm an optimist and I believe he's still in the tier of QBs who can win us another Lombardi with the right team around him and the right circumstances, which gives us a bit of time to make the right decision and we can focus the rebuild on the guys around him to start with. But in the meantime, is it really too much to ask for a specialist QB coach for the guy? Surely Bisciotti isn't that much of a tightass?

I don't think that is the case. He seems to be of the thought is X$ solves this problem or improves that then he spends the money.

That said I don't know why we don't have a QB coach. Maybe Joe doesn't want one? *shrugs*

Yeah, I'd be surprised if that issue was Bisciotti refusing to spend because I imagine the cost wouldn't be that outrageous (afaik a role like that is an operating expense that it's up to the owner to decide on whether to fork out, albeit I'm not an accountant - much less an NFL one - so I could very well be talking out my ass). But I don't think it's a coincidence that Joe's best years have come with a QB coach, and if there's a reason we don't have a dedicated one atm I hope it's a good one.

Yes yes yes, I’ve talked about having a qb coach here for a while now. Oh sure, I know that Mornhinweg was his qb coach, but now he needs to focus on OC for as long as he is here, as short a time frame that will be. Flacco needs someone to coach him up. Someone dedicated to only him.

Question I have is what value would a quarterback coach add at this point? Early in his career it can help him with learning defenses and making reads or even fixing some mechanical issues, but he's a 10 year vet. How much will it really do?

If I’m not mistaken, all teams have qb coaches. Even Peyton had a qb coach late in his career. QBs fall into bad habits and a qb coach can help him break these habits.

I'm not opposed to one by any stretch if there's one that really can help; I'm just skeptical they can help when most of this is engrained in Flacco's play.

Am I the only one that thinks the offense would look a lot better if we had a up and coming OC instead of someone who was a good OC 10+ years ago like Marty and Marc Trestman?

gary kubiak showed what a good o.c. can do for a slipping team. our o.c. doesn't have to be young, but he has to be good to help this team. prolly to late for this year. a good one next yr is a must
