The 2nd Half, The 1st Half and The Meltdowns

Those 2 td drives (and the drive before where gus fumbled inside the 5 yd line) after half time finally looked a little like the 2019 offence.

And I guess the question has to be what changed? Why did it take so long to change?
If we criticise Roman for the 1st half performance (although I'm not sure I do) we have to give credit for the 2nd half adjustments.

My guess is it's better execution and the OL playing better. But it felt different with the up-tempo etc.

But it also demonstrates just how important rhythm (and no penalties in the 2nd half on offence) makes a huge difference.

All praise for the defence though - they had the 1 drive early where they looked completely out of it and unprepared which is understandable given the week they had - they lost the edge a bit early but ultimately they held the Colts offence to 10 points and got 2 turnovers despite playing almost the entire game without their 2 best players on defence (Marlon Humphrey and Calais Campbell).

Good Win. After the first half performance though it looked like the season might be going in a completely different direction. The trajectory change with those half-time offensive adjustments is remarkable

Gotta give Roman his props. Good adjustments. Any word on Calais?

I honestly really cant even complain about Greg Roman in the first half tbh - the offence didnt move purely for execution reasons - mostly OL related

Well this game 100 % proves that it is Roman's play calling that is the problem. Don't try to make Lamar into what he is not. Play quick, quick throws and quick hits in the running game.
Lamar looked like last year in the 2nd half and its not a coincidence.

I hope Roman. is now humble enough to realize he can't do what he did to Kap in San Fran, which is ruin him. There have been eerily similarities between this year and Kap under Roman.

It cannot continue.

Don't drop Lamar back 10 yards in a passing play!!!! Exaggeration but you get my point.

I’m happy that I saw my QB play relaxed, poised, and made some nice throws and found Hollywood

i mean im not sure i can agree with that - getting up tempo in the 2nd half clearly helped create some rhythm but the offensive struggles in the first half were not playcall related they were purely execution

I couldn't have said it better. It was disgustingly similar

Man O MAN. WHAT A GAME BY MARCUS PETERS. Forced fumble that led to a TD, a big time interception after the offense turned it over, and locking down in coverage. Just a fantastic all around game. Player of the game by far.

They weren't? It was completely different play calling.

I will disagree with you on this and I rarely disagree with you.

there were things i liked in the 2nd half more - but the things that went wrong in the first half were execution problems not playcall misses

that being said i agree that the passing designs and the uptempo were really helpful in the 2nd half - looked like routes that were designed to create quick early separation for those short-to-intermediate gains

but ultimately the difference seems pretty clear to me: 0 penalties in the 2nd half and the uptempo - we got positive plays and then got to the line quickly

We just saw the blueprint for Lamar during the 2nd half for the rest of the season. When your offensive line is decimated , quick throws and fast play will reap huge rewards.
Finally Roman finds the correct solution for the offense as currently configured. Stanley,Phillips out. Skura still recovering from injury and Yanda gone.

That is a massive hit to the offensive line

If you think you are going to drop Lamar back 20 yards for a throw to Hollywood, you will find him buried in the dirt .

Passing Designs=Different play calls
