Pees just admitted he should have humph cover brown

Once again, no "in game" adjustments but 20/20 hindsight.

It's really not as simple in Pees D to have a CB shadow a specific WR as people on here seem to think. The cornerstone of Pees D is disguised coverages and rotating coverages. When a specific CB is shadowing a specific WR, that really limits what the D can do because they basically can only play man.

Obviously Pees gameplan didn't work, but placing Humphrey in man coverage on AB could have done more harm than good anyway.

Carr was getting burned in 1-on-1 coverage against Brown on just about every play. I don't see how putting literally anyone else on Brown wouldn't be an improvement (ideally, you would put Humphrey on him though). Pees didn't make any adjustments which is why we still lost despite putting up 38 points.

I agree he should've been on Brown but I get why a person is afraid to put a rookie on the best WR in football in the 4th quarter of a rivalry game

Oh, I can definitely understand why you wouldn't "normally" throw a rookie CB on a very well seasoned and top notch receiver like Brown. However, the circumstances in that game.....those being that Carr was getting pissed on again and again and again by Brown....warranted such a decision. Webb? Humphrey has those younger and "faster" legs to at least keep up with Brown. Maybe not the skill to contain him the entire game but at least to run with him with safety help over the top.

Pees said in retrospect he should have had Humphrey shadow Brown. :brickwall: That information would have been useful to me yesterday!
Wow, that’s huge to admit that error. It will be interesting to see how that bodes for this coming week.

Even if Marlon Humphrey was asked to shadow Antonio Brown it would leave Brandon Carr covering Martavis Bryant who has the neccessary speed to beat corners deep.Bryant may be having a down year but it wouldn't have been wise for The Ravens to totally ignore him. I think asking a rookie corner to follow Antonio Brown for the entire game is a huge task and maybe wouldn't have been a good idea. I can't really say Dean Pees didn't make any changes or try anything different during the second half of the game but he obviously shown alot of confidence in Carr ability to slow down Brown in press man coverage with probably the idea that The Ravens pass rushers (especially Terrell Suggs against The Steelers back up right tackle) to get to Ben Rosenberger in time.

Yep, Humphrey to try to shadow AB would have been a bad move. The right thing to do was to put Canady in for Carr to play left side. Would it have been any worse than it was?

I think they should’ve just doubled AB all game and let someone (Martavis) beat us if he could. Same thing happened with OBJ last season when Jimmy went down. I’m not sure why you would leave a journeyman DB on an island with the best WR in the game, but what the hell do I know?
