Head Coaching Candidates

John always talks positive in pressers, even when things are obviously going poorly. His words of optimism simply don't match the look on his face. He looks tired and defeated. I feel for him ... after all he's been our coach for a long time. Despite my sentiment that I do think it is time to move on he's had a lot of success so I want to think fondly of him . Things are going south and he looks like he's at a loss as to how to stop it.

Not sure if any one saw or posted this. I mean wow - I knew Pollard had an ax to grind with Harbaugh but his comments in this article are scathing. I have to wonder how much credence there is to his take on how things went down. I simply did not view that Harbaugh had that level of sway over what Ozzie would actually do.

Much of what he said seems really off. I mean "blowing up the defense"? They let Reed walk (he should have retired) and Texans paid him handsomely to sit the bench and later be cut. Letting Kruger and Ellerbe walk? They got big contracts that we'd all be complaining about had we signed them. Pollard himself was maybe a bit puzzling cause we saved little $. Boldin was the one that pissed us all off and seemed unwarranted, but I don't think he was ever cited as a part of this Harbaugh "mutiny".

oh absolutely - it will be sad to see him leave but it might be time
it might be both in the team's and his legacy's best interest to go this offseason - he goes out still loved and both sides get to move on on good terms

Interested in hearing why you feel this way
Apart from everything you'll hear from the media about his coaching prowesses that I can't really analyze just from watching tape, his playcalling and especially this year with Kyler Murray at QB has been basically everything I'd like to see for Lamar and this offense in general.
First and foremost, unlike with a lot of spread offenses, he runs a power running game both for his RB and his QB. I want this offense to continue the power run game and he would not only keep using it, but make wonders with it. Second, he's just been creative with the QB runs. While we basically have some read options and very few other wrinkles, Riley uses a ton of QB draws and designed runs from diferent formations (moslty from spread formations which makes it even more efficient). Granted, the OL he has at Oklahoma is All Star but still, the play designs look exactly like what I want to see for this OL and this QB.
Second, he uses a lot of quick passes and screens that I want to see for Lamar because 1) he's good with quick passes and 2) I'm all for getting your QB in rythm with easy completions to start drives. The screen game has been non existent in our offense and that would add another dimension to our offense. Generally speaking, defenses don't really have too much to account for, given how predictible we've become with the PA long developping passing plays being basically everything we have to offer. Riley's style would put much more pressure on defenses and much less on our OL.
Third, the use of rollouts and throws on the move. Divide the field in half, let your QB get some yards with his legs if the throw is not there. It' not genius, it's dumb logic when you have Lamar. But still I'm pretty sure Marty hasn't even thought about it.
The rest is more about the general impression that he gets the most out of his offense, from putting the ball in his playmakers to being agressive as soon as the defense starts opening up. I'm frustrated because the sample I've seen didn't allow me to really see the routes combinations but you know Murray's life was made as easy as possible.

I just watched a few games to confirm that Lincoln Riley is the number one coach for our team. He is, by a mile.

He’s my #1 wishlist. But I can’t see him choosing us over teams like the browns with Baker and the cowboys, who’s rumored to be heavily involved in going after him

we've at least got andrews and zeus jr who he also coached lol - but yeah baker's probably a bigger pull than both of those guys

But is Baker big enough of a pull given that Haslam owns the team and is absolutely toxic?

which is why its not a done deal - i was just talking in terms of the players themselves

of the young qb teams potentially to have a new HC, if i'm an offensive minded candidate im going to the ball clubs in this order of priority:
  1. Ravens (stable ownership and history of job security and great personnel department with the best overall roster of the 5 and an intriguing qb for an offensive mind)
  2. Browns (they have some star talents on that roster and a qb who looks legit)
  3. Cardinals (could have been number 1 but who knows who the GM will be given the current GM got done for DUI and is likely on a short leash and they have some intriguing talents and potentially high ceiling with Rosen under centre)
  4. Jets (Darnold has flashed but overall roster talent level is low)
  5. Bills (obviously)

Bills and Cardinals most likely to not be vacancies at the end of the year but also possible/probable...

you could potentially flip the browns into the number 1 spot too simply because they now have potential stars at EDGE, QB, RB, WR, CB and starters all around but ownership and history is a massive turnoff

that roster and GM on any other team would easily be the number 1 option but its the Browns and Haslam

other potential options for an offensive minded coach could be the Bucs (temptation of seeing what they can get out of Jameis still)

Winston is likely done in Tampa. 5th year extension he got is guaranteed for injury only - that's why Fitz plays again. They want to get rid of Jameis, had enough of knucklehead play.

all i was saying is that could be someone an offensive minded HC candidate could be attracted to - and it would most likely be in tampa

i think they're trying to get rid of him and i would get behind that decision for a multitude of reasons going back to college but i could see a coach selling the bucs hierarchy on how they can get the best out of him

On the subject of Riley, I wouldn’t be too tied to the idea that he would want to go to CLE just because of Baker. I say that because look at Jim Harbaugh and Andrew Luck. There were rumors surrounding Jim going to Indy to coach Luck but it never happened. Not saying Riley would be the same but I don’t think coaches care as much about that but I think it’s certainly nice. If CLE lured him it’ll be the package not just Baker.

Has anyone brought up Pete Carmichael, Saints OC? I know the system is mainly Payton's, but Carmichael has been there for 13 seasons so either he has learned a lot from Payton or there is a good reason why he has been there for 13 seasons.

He makes good coffee?

I wouldn't mind if Bisciotti and DeCosta considered Ray as the next HC, provided he has any interest in the job at this stage.
Wouldn't mind that at all.
