The WR Thread

I think people are way too high on him. I don't see the athleticism, I think he's slow footed.

what im seeing which confuses me is that he's incredibly smooth and hits high gear quite quickly - he's really good at getting major separation on routes that break to the sideline but struggles with press coverage - im guessing his fit is initially gonna have to be in the slot so that he gets 1v1 and cannot be pressed at the LoS

its a shame hes not running a 40 because id be really interested to see what he runs because he breaks away from guys so quickly despite being quite lanky - he's got decent hands too

but yeah im with you in that i dont really see athleticism - more just smoothness - but that just makes it even weirder because he's such a great returner

he looks like a guy to me whose route running will allow him to have a long steady career no matter what his ceiling is but i wonder what the ceiling is which is why im finding it hard to grade him

My GOD! James Washington's tape is so fun to watch - i mean i realise he's playing against awful corners, never has to face press coverage etc. etc. but watching the way he tracks the ball in the air and watching his impeccable technique on acknowledging the ball so late that the db has no chance is incredible

his route running needs a lot of work and he has a tendency to give away the play by the speed he runs his stem but the traits are superb

he's a brilliant catcher of the ball too in both contested and uncontested situations

i dont know what his ceiling (looks like torrey on steroids) is as an nfl player but he looks like a guy who's gonna get involved early on in his career and make an impact

im glad he improved his 40 time at the pro day but the most impressive was the vertical improvement and that play someone posted of his leaping grab...

if this guy gets into a program that teaches him how to run sharp routes (because he's shown the physical ability to stop on a dime and make cuts) he's gonna be lethal

EDIT:
It has made me think about how incredible DJ Moore's production would be if he had even remotely close to the level of qb play that james washington had (not a negative on washington)

He's been my favourite receiver for the Ravens since "too early" threads last year and still is.

As of right now i have now watched all the tape on 9 of the 13 receivers i have currently with day 2 grades (or higher)...

interestingly and hopefully promising for the ravens is that i have 6 receivers on my board between pick 23 and 39...

ive still got to finish the film on cedrick wilson, (find some more on korey robertson), DJ Chark and michael gallup - as well as all the guys i dont have initially with day 2 grades

Out of the 4 I'd only take Gallup in the second round, and Chark in the third.

DJ Moore/Christian Kirk/Anthony Miller fit perfectly in our offense right now.....

I think the signing of Crabtree makes it less likely we draft Sutton. We dont really need a possession reciever early in the draft, maybe just one for depth.

Dante Pettis is a bit of a hard grade for me - how's everyone else viewing him?
Jared Abbrederis 1.0
Good route runner but like others said too, I don't see the first step, the explosiveness, the suddeness necessary to create separation in the NFL.. That twitter breakdown we have all seen once has praised him based solely on unrealistic routes that would require way too much time to develope...a little bit like those WR-DB 1on1 drills

I really hope so.. And if I can vote I'm going on CJ. All day. Miller has great hands and body control but Moore quickness and after the catch elusiveness may turn particularly useful as Joe's safety blanket (one who loves throwing check downs)

I agree more on the twitter breakdown tbh. I dont think those routes are non existant in the nfl as i see plently of teams run post flags, after all it was a drill at the combine so they want to see how well they can run complex routes. The more of the route tree you know the better and he kniws routes extremely well.

As for the explosiveness issue remember that Cooper kupp was viewed as a lesser athlete at the WR position yet he was still extremely productive and i think Pettis is a much better athlete. His frame bothers me but hes really just as big as Ridley.

I see 4.5 (maybe sub 4.5...maybe) on film and he gets to top speed without needing much buildup so i think he has some explosive traits, he eats up off coverage in a hurry. Also he never seems to get caught from behind (unlike Perrimans college film). He shows exceptional body control and doesnt drop the ball very often. He has no hip tightness in his movements. His production went down last year mainly due to poor qb play (ball placement was terrible all year and wasted all the seperation he was able to get). i also think he benifited greatly from John Ross and thrives as a number 2. Id also like him to change his route speeds more often.

Only neg i see with him is hes really not an alpha male. Seems to have a soft personality not sure, still a nice kid though.

The problem with Washington isnt his ability to make cuts its his hip stiffness. His legs are so long which give him a high waste line and hes not able to drop his butt at the top of his route, thats what gives his route away. You can see him lean toward the direction hes cutting. His 9 route is superb though and his ability to track and locate the ball while its in the air is incredible i just think he needs to play in the right system. This is the right system for him im just not sure how many deep threats we need....unless we just give up on Perriman lol, i think he'll be better than Perriman though. Hes gonna draw DPIs regardless

Same can probably be said for Kirk in that regard, and hes had more consistent production with similar qb play and no supporting cast at WR

i dont think this team is (rightfully) taking perriman into account at all - if he emerges then cool that's a bonus but the ravens wont be planning around him or relying on him emerging

Then i dont see why we couldnt take Washington and let him compete with Moore and Brown for snaps as our deep threat.....but no sooner than the 3rd round and we still would have to add a slot reciever.
