The WR Thread

Courtland Sutton if in the first.
Gallup in the 2nd.
Marcel ateman in the 3rd.

But I still wouldn’t rule out small quicker WRs. John brown is on a 1 year deal and Grant is kind of like a 2 year deal. Plus I just want us to draft Anthony miller badly

i think you've picked each one of those receivers a round too early for me

Your a round too high on all 3 of thos guys

I agree with Sutton in the first. Grant and brown are in the same mold of Ridley. Maybe a little high on Sutton but not by a round I’d say 5-10 spots. Plus he still has a chance to be the best receiver in this class.

How tf are they in the same mold? Brown and grant couldn't be more polar opposite and Ridley is like neither of them

exactly lol
- brown has elite speed and suddenness with solid hands that allows him to work well on comeback routes and deep go routes etc. from the outside
- grant is a shifty and accomplished route runner with great short-area burst and a terrific understanding of how to skill his way open with great hands and enough top end speed to get behind defences working out of the slot and on the boundary
- ridley is an incredibly accomplished route runner for a prospect with good speed and good hands and nice length and smooth speed on his routes on no matter their depth with an uncanny ability to get separation with brilliant transitions from smooth striding stems to sharp and effective breaks

the only thing these guys have in common is that they have nice speed, good route running and solid hands - but youd want that in any receiver

Question is, do they all feel blessed?

I think Sutton can be a really good receiver. But..not in Baltimore. He needs to go somewhere that can actually help and develop receivers coming out of college.

Hes insanely talented yet completely mis used at SMU. Made his film inconsistent. I still think his technique lacks refinement however

so im steadily finishing off the tape for all the top guys at wr - im through the first 3-4 on my list -

and ill be honest (and @Jacquouille i know you'll disagree with me) but deon cain has not impressed me particularly much - he doesnt blow past defenders in press, has some concentration drops, doesnt seem to run the best routes on the intermediate to deep levels - he gets a lot less separation than i was expecting too

he's great when the ball's in the air and when playing with a cushion is phenomenal with his sharp cuts on comebacks or in-breaking routes to create separation quickly and is pretty good after the catch

dont get me wrong he's a good prospect but i dont think he's in the same realm as some of the other guys - he's the 6th wr on my board right now and im not sure if he'll drop or not but he's not gonna end up higher

so ive just got to equanimeous st brown - am i crazy that i think this guy is being forgotten by the media and draft analysts?
his qb play was absolutely rotten in 2017 but he still showed incredible traits (and importantly when he had kizer throwing to him in 2016 his production was much higher) - his hands are maybe the best in the class, he is surprisingly quick and glides past defenders, he is great running after the catch, has shown some great route running skills (especially on crossers in zone and on double moves going deep) albeit inconsistent - i saw multiple occasions on film where he was wide open for a 20 yard gain and the qb just threw a 50/50 ball to someone else or held the ball or didnt look or whatever - it was actually frustrating - there was one beautiful double move he ran that forced the safety to double him and hed got behind the safety but the ball was thrown right to the safety underneath... there was a beautiful corner post where there was no defender within 5-10 meters of him but the qb just threw the ball elsewhere... it was actually depressing watching that qb play

No. His tape is almost unwatchable due to the horrible QB play.
Watching him have to block because his QB is running....again.

Talented receiver with rare physical traits.

Id like to see him fight for the ball more often on film. I hate his hand placement when catching passes and it showed in the gauntlet drill. Really struggled catching the ball cleanly at the combine.

He gets open and is hard to stop if he has a little room to run. Not convinced with his hands and I think he'll have hard time staying healthy in pros, sort of like Benjamin.

You wrote the same thing about each player then said how are they the same? Lol.

John brown-5’10” 180
Ryan Grant- 6’0” 200
Calvin Ridley-6’1” 190

K so Grant is bigger then I thought but still none of these dudes are big bodied 50/50 red zone threats.
Where Sutton is all those things. So I was right when I said same mold.

I've just finished the last bit of tape i had to watch but im getting a fairly solid idea of what i think of him now - i guess i see in st brown someone who will need help getting acclimatised to the pros but who has maybe one of the highest upsides in the class

His hands look solid to me but he's not brilliant in contested situations and lets the ball come to him rather than attacking the ball which would be a bit of a worry - but his hands are sublime when he has the ability to focus in on the catch

his route running on specific routes is stronger than on others but he's faster than i expected

my issue with him is that i worry that his physicality is gonna get him penalised for OPI early on - he'll beat a defender but push off them sometimes to get even further open which might be his undoing in the pros
