The WR Thread

View attachment 434 My GOD read these comments. Holy shit our social media fans are so detached from reality it's fucking absurd
Literally Ravens fans and most of their media (Tony Lombardi in large part) are what has pissed me off the most this offseason. I'm so done with all those couch GMs clamoring random sentences like they were the gospel. All those narratives that are completely invented and full of shit just to serve some completely misplaced discontent and self complimenting because "Ozzie is a noob and I could have done better and I know how to run an organization better than Bisciotti" are making me crazy. I'm litteraly disgusted at all the nonsense I'm reading and that goes complementely unanswered.

took another look at washington, 5 games(shorthand version). heres my quick scouting report, a "+" sign means a trait i didnt catch when i watched him initially, thus moving him up.
pros:
-built like a workhorse RB but with tree-limb arms, big wingspan
-plays to his frame, very sturdy, not easily rerouted, tough to body up with when he is able to box out, strong as hell
-great chopping feet at the line to make db's second guess, allows himself to dictate the coverage often (+)
-long strides that eat up ground fast once he gets a head of steam
-good head fakes to hide his intentions and sell routes(+) does exceptionally well here when accelerating and lowering head to fake the go route
-surprising change of direction, he is stiff and a long-strider but can accelerate, lower the head, then chop the feet to execute a comeback route very well. also plants a foot firmly to make a cut for solid deep slants and outs(+). appears to need space though, make the dbs fear the deep route, takes advantage of a db with flipped hips very well
-has shown the ability, though not super consistently, to reach and pluck the ball out of the air in tight coverage
-also on occasion has shown the ability to box out, this is most noticeable on short-ish comebacks in the redzone
-tracks deep ball very well, literally never gets lost looking for it and mason rudolph hasnt always delivered him the best ball, hes gotten under a few ducks to make him look good

cons:
-stiff
-deep speed isnt what you would expect from someone who looks like a deep threat
-acceleration is pretty weak
-chops feet at the line well, chops feet and drops hips to run the comeback, but doesnt chop the feet and drop the hips on really any other route, doesnt make db's bite on anything aside from when he sells the go-route with head fakes
-his whole game is based on getting deep and making the db flip his hips, doesnt gain quick separation, the breaks on his routes are strong and effective so long as he can get his stride up and make his move at a high speed and force the db to change directions late
-for a "deep threat" type of guy he likely wont command a ton of safety attention, as his speed isnt gonna really scare anyone, troublesome when his game is predicated on selling deep routes
-his box-out game is situational, doesnt do it well without having the initial advantage in positioning. when he is between the db and qb he boxes out extremely well and can pluck and possess the ball quickly, but if he has to adjust and get around the db he disappears.

overall: hes more savvy than i initially thought, his head fakes, choppy feet off the line, and strong cuts at top speed at the arc of the route are all better than i recalled, he still has a lot of things i dont love, his game appears to be very much predicated on setting up routes. he needs to take that foot chopping at the line and use it to quickly break routes to gain fast separation. he often gets a ton of separation but it also takes a long time, i worry about him being a reliable outlet to get rid of the ball quick against pressure defenses.

i dont have a pro comp for him, i just cant put my finger on it, somewhere between mike wallace and jarvis landry, a step slower than wallace but far craftier and more inclined to make a tough catch more along the lines of a landry, but i cant actually compare him to either of them alone.

stock: still round 3 to me. i want quick separation through elite routes and consistent reliable catching, not guys who take a long time to set up the play and arent gonna consistently be in a winning position when the ball is delivered. though he did move up in my book. if we were to take him in round 2, id be pretty upset, but once again i would do my best to see the upside like ive done with guys in the past and lived to regret it(fucking correa). i just dont trust our ability to develop guys like washington, and i dont trust our system and OL to allow for the best usage of guys like this.

highlights dont do dj moore justice. i always watch highlights first, and if i like what i see i go on to watch film right there(if i dont like it i might watch film later on... like in this case), i didnt like moores highlights... but im currently watching real film on him, and i am changing my mind quickly. i DEFINITELY see just how badly the qb play hurt him from watching this, and im seeing a lot of things you just dont see in highlights. ill post a scouting report later on, but ive spent the past hour watching film and im just not feeling it anymore today lol. ill say this though, after 2 games of film he may have moved up to a 2nd rounder for me.

I still think his hands are inconsistent at best. Very poor catching technique.

i also said he was a clap catcher just from watching his highlights, was one of my biggest knocks. i only watched 2 games and need to watch more, but ill get around to it. im doing some gaming now, im all footballed out lol

ya got me. i still dont rate him nearly as high as you, theres still a small amount of room for him to move up if i see better contested catches in different games
Mind you, I have him as a second rounder for US. Because I like the fit. If we were, say, the Eagles, the Saints or the Raiders (completely random choice tbh) I'd say "Fuck no he's a 3rd rounder". And yeah, contested situations could improve but I like his ability to use his frame and get the DB outside of the discussion when he gets an underthrown ball (happens a lot).

Well tbh Moore is inconsistent in so many categories, one play he's Antonio Brown and the next play he's a slower Ted Ginn. It looks like he's not always 100% actually and it kinda makes me pause.

well see, i dont like the fit for us, because he looks like more of the same, guys that dont get separation(at least not quick separation through elite route running). i want a guy who joe can look to when hes under pressure, he can trust him to be open and in the right place and catch the ball and maybe even get some YAC. thats why i still have miller as my #2 and miles ahead of anyone else.

Have you watched anything on his teammate Marcell Ateman?

Actually before last night I watched more of ateman than Washington, wasn't too impressed. For a guy his size you definitely want him playing bigger, he's just so inconsistent with his box-out and his highpoint.

I'm not a fan of Rudolph at all and he wasn't doing ateman many favors either, but shit when he would loft one up there Washington did a great job at winning leverage early and getting under it for an easy catch, ateman kinda just runs right to it and reaches for it without trying to win the leverage/positioning battle

At the Shrine Game right now, Jester Weah is a guy I liked last summer. Thought he was promising although mostly a project. Heard nothing on him this season but I just saw a few tweets saying he did well today.

If he runs a 4.4 would you reconsider his "lack" of speed. He is very crafty and about as polished a deep threat as you can find in the draft. His speed is more like torrey where he sets up his DBs and flies right by them. Torrey never looked really fast on tape and neither does Washington

Its why I won’t even look at RSR. The boards over there are just people wallowing in their discontent. Fuck that shit.

Torrey did look fast, he had near instant acceleration, James washingtons top speed is serviceable, but it's the buildup time that is a problem, he can't shift into second gear in one step like Torrey and needs to ramp up the speed. He certainly is crafty in his deep routes though, something I didn't catch the first time around, he sets himself up very well to be in the right position to make a catch
