The WR Thread

Can anyone find me some stats on James Washimgtons catch % or drop rate. I watched him yesterday and he had a couple of drops. He still had a pretty good game (with an eradic Rudolph) but those drops bothered me. Seemed to bother him too but they were fairly easy catches to make. Isnt the first time ive seen this happen with him either. Just curious to see what his drop rate really is

So apparently his drop rate in 2015 was 14.52 according to pff. Through 6 weeks into the 2016 season, he didnt drop any of his 33 catchable balls yet struggled late in the year with drops. His catch percentage was 51% in 2015 and 54% in 2016 (remember this does not account for uncatchable passes). I give him some benifit of doubt with those numbers considering hes mostly targeted deep down feild.

I just worry these drops will haunt him in the NFL. My biggest worry is that hes another Breshad Perriman. Can make the spectacular catch down the feild, but cant catch a 5 yard out route....granted washington has a much higher volume of targets at Oklahoma st

Legit concern though. Drops will get amplified when the ball arrives faster like it does with an NFL QB.

Hes one of the most gifted players ive seen at tracking the deep ball. Its all the other stuff i see him having trouble with. Also doesnt have great lenght, his arms seem a little short so that becomes a problem witb contest catches over the middle. But deep downfeild? He does everything right. Good route runner for the few routes he runs. Right now I have him as a high second rounder. Not sure he can be a first rounder, his 40 time will probably disapoint people at the combine too. Hes not overly fast. I would be surprised if he runs lower than a 4.45

There's no way we get Ridley if we win couple more games

Yeah, I agree, the more we win, the more likely we don’t land Nelson.

after seeing our line so depleted today and despite knowing that we get a load of olineman back next year i kinda want mcglinchey ahead of ridley too - although ridley would be incredible

I’d be cool with McGlinchey as well, but it’s possible he goes first due to being a tackle.

oh yeah and if we make it to the playoffs then obviously we dont have a chance at any of them - one caveat to winning more games is that the nfc is vastly superior in terms of strong records which means there are more teams in the NFC who would be picking after us if we didnt make the playoffs - if we dont make the playoffs we automatically almost certainly will have a pick in the teens somewhere probably around 16 - which id suggest puts us close to in range to those 3 guys

There is always someone that drops. I’d say this year we were able to land someone who could have been picked higher. The way he has been playing, even in his limited role, he’s playing like a savvy vet.

Watched a bit of courtland Sutton, gotta say I wouldn't mind having him here. He's built like a tank for a wr and his play matches it, yet he still has some feet and can change direction surprisingly well, seems to have great natural hands and natural body control, and considering the leap he's made that I keep hearing about you would think he's got work ethic to improve himself.

I think of all the potential first round WR he's the best fit for us. He would make Joe's life so much easier. He plays the position really well, he can do a bit of everything but most of all his ability to high point the ball would do wonders for us.

Let's not kid ourselves... that guy is Calvin Ridley and nobody is coming close. But Sutton is 2nd lol

You think Ridley is the better fit? He's no question the better player but I think for what we need, Sutton brings more of that.
I generally think the best player is the best fit when it comes to skill positions. 3-4 vs 4-3 edge guys or NT vs 0T or pass blockers vs maulers is a different argument for me, as is positional need in general, but if we're comparing WRs I typically wanna just take the best one.

I agree that joes tendency to deliver balls that break the WRs stride would suggest that you want a bigger guy with better catch radius, but you could also argue that a supreme athlete with exceptional routes is even better since he will be more wide open far more often and the allowed margin for error on joes part is much bigger, i.e. less turnovers and PDs because the DBs will typically be much further from the ball.

That's a great point. My concern with Ridley is not actually Ridley, it's Marty. Because I feel like no matter how great he is he'll be a bust in such a horrible scheme, whereas Sutton is kinda "open even if he's not" so Jjoe can always look in his way.
