RB Thread

Everytime Guice is moked to us I feel torn apart because I don't think we can afford that kind of luxury pick in the first but at the same time I love the guy so much and he fits so well here I can't imagine him not being a Raven...
It’s amazing what he would do with our offense, from the get go, yet Id rather take a rb in the middle rounds.

Barkley is getting all the hype in the world, but I'm not convinced. Outside of the bowl game where he performed well and one run against Michigan, he performed lousy against ranked teams. He basically disappeared in 6 games in Big 10 play.

I don't see how he's the best back since AP. Not at all and I wouldn't draft him that high or any back for that matter.
His OL is shit. Don't look further. Don't overthink it. Anytime he's got space people shit their pants.

I don't think Barkley is the best back since AP(That still goes to Gurley imho. If that dude is on his A game he's the best back in the league imo) but he's easily an elite prospect

Barkely is great outside the Ts as has a good acceleration, takes great angles, and cuts exactly when he has to. However, Guice is better suited for our O imo and is the only RB I'd be excited with in the first. Low pads, power, runs very angry.
If not, I reaaally like is Nyheim Hines on late day 2. I had quite some luck with my fav backs in the last year (D.Johnson and Ajayi, Hunt last year), maybe this year we're selecting one from my deck and make everybody happy :D

Barkley just never had any lanes to run through inside. He always had to bounce it outside. Hopefully he can het over that habit he got in college and be more patient in the nfl

Interesting that Daniel Jeremiah has Ronald Jones listed twelfth in his top fifty. Has anyone watched enough film to have formed an opinion on Jones?

AP is my fav running of all time and i usually hate comparisons but man barkley is nice with it

I've watched some tapes for a few times last week.
He doesn't have patience and a great pad level to me. A one-cut kind of runner. Like Tevin Coleman. Definitely has breaking speed on open field but he's on my list of players I really don't like for the range they've been projected.
Maybe thus week end I can make some gifs, if I've got any time left

I've only seen two games and those were essentially my impressions.
Seems content to hit the hole as it's drawn up no matter what....not particularly adept at breaking tackles....Gets there in a hurry, though.

i am a fan of guice as well and agree he would be awesome paired with collins. not sure i would use #16 on him because i believe with all the qb's and some o-lineman, barkley, ridley going before us will drop some highly rated defensive players down to us to choose from.

Agreed.
There's plenty of teams looking for a QB, like the Giants, who are rarely picking that high and this time around are also in play for one.
So I'm confident we're going to sit there waiting for something to fall in our arms. I'm just at that stage of the year, though, when I haven't seen enough tapes to really rate a good sample size of prospects and find out who I'd like to have there the most. Usually, I end up with 2/3 fav guys (like last year Lawson, Takk and Conley). As of now I still have Guice, McGlinchey, Landry, Derwin James, Ridley and maybe Edmunds. So it's kind of 50/50 O/D.

After a further look to Ronald Jones I have to correct myself.
I didn´t entirely change my opinion on whether we should or should not take him if he´s there in the second. I still believe he isn´t a fit and doesn´t provide a big boost to our unit either.
His ability to break arm tackles is definitely better than I initially thought (perhaps watching his tapes after Guice´s wasn´t helping either). He has a pretty good pad lever and his quick feet do allow him to maintain his balance, preventing him from being brought down immediately while shooting a gap or changing direction.
Afterall, I remain skeptical about his ability to see the field and his patience, as pulling linemen/TEs pave him the way; there were quite some plays when he def shouldn´t have lowered his head and run straight forward.

Now, it may pretending this is the end of the world because it´s something you can correct, and in a power oriented scheme, with a FB leading his way and double teams on DTs he may find those gaps where his one-cut ability will have him thrive. But he´s not my kind of player and I think we should rather pick up a WR, as there´s plenty of them worth an early day 2 pick.

I made some screens to highlight what I meant. Isn´t there a way I can post anything else than internet medias? I´ll edit if possible

i am still not sold on collins being the guy. yes he was impressive taking it to the edges but again i did not see much between the tackles and that could be for various reasons. i like guice a lot but would not use #16 on any rb or wr. fs, ilb, o-lineman would be my focus with that pick. again everything depends on what is accomplished during free agency or if any trades are made. suggs is old, howard filled in admirably but struggled against speed rushers and weddle seemed to be a step too slow imo. lb coverage with te's killed us

why not wr? its our biggest need on the team.

and ive been rewatching the wire and just finished season 2... is your name a reference to that at all?

LACK OF VISION
1st situation:
vs Stanford

delayed handoff as both the WR and TE are in motion, pulling to the left.

View attachment 515

He has a whole empty field, as the play develops exactly as designed but he lowers his head and blindly dives through the middle hoping to find a hole.
He gains 2 yards.

View attachment 516

Play 2
vs Utah

Again, head low. Nice, empty field on his left.

View attachment 517

Doesn´t see it and runs straight., for 1 yard this time.

View attachment 518

LACK OF PATIENCE
vs Stanford

LT gains outside leverage while TE pulls to set the edge.

View attachment 519

Doesn´t wait for his teammate to complete the motion and collides with him.
Gets tackled by the DB for a 2 yard gain.

View attachment 520

Like I wrote before, probably it´s in his best interested to get drafted by a team with a solid Oline and one easy gameplan. He looks best when the blocks are unfolding right in front of his eyes. No great pulls or anything.

Here you see exactly what I meant. Double team on the DT, then 77 gets to the second level engaging the MLB.

Jones has to do what he does best: full speed, one cut and say goodbye. He´s almost uncatchable then.

i just do not trust this team to develop wr's so taking one in the first would seem like a wasted pick with their history. they have done a better job bringing in veterans over the years aside from maclin but it would be nice to get a younger guy like robinson or landry that can be with us for 5-7 years. i actually really like dj moore in the 3rd if he is there to pair with either robinson or landry along with resigning wallace at a fair price would be a big improvement. i am greek so that is where the screen name comes from. hehehe the wire is a great show. i only see maybe 4 -5 teams going defense before us which would drop some top defenders to us at 16.
