The General TE Thread

It looks that way to me. He's never looked all that buff and toned. His midsection is a little thick for TE. Thick as in a young beer gut kind of way.
Midsection is a little thick for a 22 year old of any vocation. Physique suggestive of someone who will be overweight at 30.

I just need Maxx to get it together, nothing you can really do if his body just isn't healthy yet.

If Max finally gets in shape while rehabbing and only misses 2-4 games I would prefer max at his best half the season and more importantly the playoffs. As opposed to an outa shape and under achieving Max. And the team hit the pavement running entering into the playoffs. This team is going to need its young talent to hit its peak to have a legit chance of a playoff run. That includes Max Dixon and Perriman to hit full potential.

Max and Dixon has such massive potential. Max is an outa shape under achieving TE in college coasting on such impressive raw skills. Yet he was in the round1 conversation. He isn't out for the year and it's a better situation if we get Max at his best for 10 games and the playoffs. If he could follow and mimic Watson and get in shape and practice hard like Watson. Max could blow the roof off the offense. As could Dixon as a runner/receiver if he avoids injury and hits his coasting gear.

Can we be real here, and understand that maxx is more than likely behind schedule because he doesn't take care of himself anywhere close to the way an NFL player should... you can't properly rehab a lower body injury if you're are too damn overweight to comfortably move on it, and your body isn't gonna heal up if you're stuffing nothing but fat and carbs into it.

Hate to say it but I'm losing hope with maxx, fast. He was rumored to have weak commitment, constantly out of shape and low effort. And in 2 years and 3 offseasons, all those things are very apparent to me and things are getting worse, and those work habits could be a compounding problem

Flex I totally agree. However his potential is massive and that is what is so frustrating about him. He could and should be a freakin pro bowler!! Remember I attacked him his rookie year for being outa shape. Well it was cuz of all the grapevine rumors swirling around out there. He showed up lazy with terrible work and practice habits and even worse eating habits. And rubbed some coaches the wrong way.

He is an elite athlete and football player. But like you said he has lazy work and practice habits. And worse eating lol. Some athletes have a very fast metabolism to remain lean however he isn't one of them. Unless he is totally out eating his athletes metabolism. Which would make sense cuz he even acknowledged he likes bad food. But truth be told he is an elite athlete and football player. If he got in shape he would be a pro bowler. So there is at least some optimism somebody like Watson can get him on track. And for being outa shape he plays faster than his 40 time. And is a silky smooth route runner suddenly fluid in his breaks with instant acceleration. Not to mention physical athletic ball skills with very big strong hands. If he got in shape like Gronk and Watson could you pic how much faster stronger and more athletic he would be?? Massive potential!! but a really really frustrating player towatch

That 2nd round curse strikes again...

Correa, maxx, Timmy jernigan, Arthur brown - hopefully Correa improves but something about the 2nd round has been ozzie's kryptonite recently

I think we should kick the tires on Barnidge for at least a workout especially if Maxx isn't going to be ready for the season opener. If nothing else, 3 of our first 4 games are against in division opponents and there is a lot to be said about knowing how to play in division against those defenses (including the one he played against in Cleveland).

I do understand and share the concern that Barnidge isn't signed and the fact that Cleveland cut him when they did with uncertainty on their own roster at TE. With that said, is Barnidge an upgrade over Watson to save some cap space (EDIT: forgot Watson took paycut) to replace Watson with a TE at a younger age? What say you?

I don't think Maxx is fat at all he's just injury prone, he's built like Jason Witten who never looked like Vernon Davis but is twice the player.

At this point I'm worried about Maxx's health. I'm not sure if it's because he's out of shape or not, but it certainly doesn't help if he isn't in shape. It's a shame too, because if he gets on a football field he can play even if he's not in tip top shape(I understand the frustration though. If he does get into better shape than he's a top 5 player there in all likelihood with a similar skillset to Jason Witten. Without him I could easily see him as another Heath Miller type, which is still good).

I'd go get Barnidge and if Maxx never heals up I'd look at a TE very early next year. Again, I think if he can get onto the football field he'll be very good for us. But I'm starting to doubt it.

Maxx is pretty fat. He carries a beer gut and love handles pretty regularly. He moves well despite it but you can tell he could have much better suddenness if he could cut that fat down.

I googled him before responding to jog my memory and I think we disagree on this it just looks like offseason shape to me, like 10 pounds he would sweat off in 2 weeks if he was healthy enough to run.
