Post-Draft Discussion Thread

Dont underestimate Hollywood being on the roster and his effect in a positive sense to keep AB mentally stable

You're talking as if you have any idea what influence Hollywood has on AB. I bet the answer will be closer to none than a lot.

Combine numbers on the 40 this year were completely useless - pretty sure this happened with reagor too - made everything even more difficult with the lack of pro days etc and other missing athletic testing data

If I had to guess I dont think we will bring him in because if it did sour it could be a distraction for Hollywood. That said I trust whatever decision is made on AB.

Distraction isn’t my worry, my worry is if it does sour will AB be in Hollywood’s ear talking about Harbaugh is this and that and he needs to demand a trade or some shit.

like I lean towards thinking there’s no way he blows his absolute last chance, but I still worry about that

Talking bout post draft: I've been watching just 2 Washington s tapes (Baylor 2019 amd Ole Miss 2018). Man.. He's veeery active with his hands.
Always throwing an arm over and using blocker's momentums to pull himself free.
Of course he plays a good amount of reps with high pads, too, which will def cost some big run plays if not addressed.
Afterall, there's a reason if he wasn't a sure fire 1st rounder lol. He's a nice developemental piece to have behind Campbell nonetheless
He fits what EDC said in his pre-draft presser - they traded Wormley because they want to go another direction. I assume this means more versatile and that they can play as many positions/techniques as possible -> better matchups and chaos.

This means the TV/broadcast is in sync with timekeeping which I highly doubt. There's a reason why the time we see on the broadcast live is always unofficial. Also didn't Arnette run twice?

Thats the distraction Im talking about

PFF notes on Phillips:

TYRE PHILLIPS, MISSISSIPPI STATE
Phillips is a naturally massive human being at 6-foot-5, 331 pounds with 35 ⅛-inch arms and 10 ⅜-inch hands. He also moves like a massive human being with an 8.0-plus second 3-cone and 5.0-plus second shuttle at the combine (often seen as thresholds for tackle). In a phone booth, though, you don’t want any part of him. He doesn’t cede an inch in the pocket and is already an accomplished pass protector. Phillips earned a 78.2 pass-blocking grade this past season at left tackle. He was already kicked inside at the Senior Bowl practices and won eight of his 11 reps in the one-on-ones for the highest win rate of any guard in attendance.

it's not just that one though - a lot of the times didnt make sense

i mean i dont think he's fast but from what ive been seeing as ive been going deeper is good enough footwork and an understanding of his physical limitations and strengths - he creates so much movement on double teams etc. and his length helps get him out of all sorts of trouble (a bit like Orlando Brown) at tackle - I think there's a strong chance that he can win that job inside - the physical tools to play guard are there and so is a lot of the processing - he can get sloppy with his hands away from his body later in the down which is giving DL the opportunity to shed late but he keeps his feet moving really well and at the senior bowl i saw him set anchor when he lost the initial hand fight against some huge DTs - had some nice reps against javon kinlaw (and one where kinlaw beat him but kinlaw did that to everyone at the senior bowl)

there's a lot to work with with Tyre Phillips and I don't think he's incredibly far away - there's some technical things that will help him but if he gets into training camp having spent all his time delving into the playbook i think Joe D is gonna get his hands on him and work some magic

with the short turnaround though i do wonder if we stick him into the LG competition not RG because he's so used to working left-handed vs right-handed in his career so far - may not be that big of a deal to be fair

I agree. I just hope hes more KO than Jermaine Eluemenor and Robert Myers, he has monstrous natural power and that cant be taught.

You have 2 attempts. If one attempt was truly botched you have a 2nd run. Why don't these twitter experts consider that? They recheck the run & time for a reason.
BTT: Arnette was a bad pick. He's 24 yo and has reportedly "maturity issues" well...On tape he look like a 4.5ish corner, is grabby, can't turn his head in time and has questionable ball tracking skills. However his footwork&mirroring skills are good

and length - if he gets his punch right and is able to turn that into a weapon he'll be able to win the play literally as its beginning

I hated eluemenor and Myers. Philipps is long and stronger and bigger than both. He's not that athletic but that's why hes moving to guard.

ah good old Snacks Myers...that was his true forte
But let's be honest here it was a 5th round pick. The Carl Davis pick was worse or Correa/Kaufusi/Bowser

exactly it was a 5th round pick - and we realised our mistake and just got rid of him - didnt double down

not every day 3 pick is going to be a contributor

Whether Boykin and duvernay pan out or not, I love the trend of day 2 WR picks every year and I want it to keep up as much as possible, you need firepower to win in this AFC arms race and WR has such a low conversion rate that you can never draft too many of them.
