I mean, I feel like this is pretty bad analysis by Sharp though...
1. If we take David Newton's tweet as gospel, he doesn't say that Carolina felt Simmons was better than Brown... it says they felt Simmons was more athletic, which obviously isn't a surprise, because he is. More athletic doesn't automatically equal better player.
2. I actually think the Panthers thought process was pretty spot on. The position they took is generally a more valuable position in the league, I think it fills a bigger need, and as far as their analysis of versatility, one could argue that taking a player like Simmons on a rebuilding team could hamstring or make your decisions more difficult moving forward.
If you played him at Safety this year, is he a Safety for good? Do you target linebacker next year or Safety next year, and move him to linebacker? Every team would have similar questions, unless you're a team that already has some decent players at some of these spots, like Arizona does.
