Joe Flacco

So, AJ McCarron is expected to campaign for free agency this offseason, otherwise he'd be a RFA of the Bengals. What do we think the odds are that if he reaches FA, Ozzie will go after Bama Boy?
Would you expect Ozzie to sign him as a replacement for Flacco? Would he be happy sitting on the bench while Flacco is playing out high $$ season? Would Ravens pay McCarron the money he would probably get elsewhere as a starter?
Not a chance I think.

To answer your first question, yes. To answer the second, I suppose it depends on if Flacco continued this play because then McCarron likely takes over at some point in the season for Flacco. To answer the third, probably not.

why would he be RFA - wouldnt he be UFA after his last year on a rookie contract??? he wasnt a 1st round pick and he's accumulated 4 years in the league...

I honestly think this is overplayed. Flacco hasn't looked good since 2014. It wasn't a sudden downturn. It's been a gradual regression.
I agree. Maybe the first four weeks of the season, but he’s fine now. He wouldn’t have run like that if he wasn’t healthy.

McCarron's grievance dates to his rookie season in 2014, when the Bengals drafted him in the fifth round. McCarron initially passed his post-draft physical, but the Bengals placed him on the non-football injury list (NFI) at the start of training camp due to a shoulder issue.

In McCarron's opinion, he was healthy enough to come off the NFI list during training camp, which would have counted his rookie year toward free agency. But Cincinnati didn't add McCarron to its active roster until Dec. 9, meaning it was too late for him to accrue a season toward his free agency.

Under terms of the collective bargaining agreement, a player receives an accrued season that counts toward free agency if he was eligible to play in six regular-season games.

There was something weird about an IR situation or another. He's technically only played three seasons and right now, he's scheduled to be a RFA.

He officially filed a grievance, see post above

yeah i can see how he might be able to win that - its in the NFL and the NFLPA's interest - NFL gets another potential starting qb in free agency and a storyline for the offseason to keep the media cycle churning and better qb play (potentially) on a qb-needy team, the NFLPA gets the precedent of stopping teams from stashing healthy players (who would otherwise be in the league)

Cole Wright on NFL Network just named us among 2 or 3 other teams that could either show an interest in Eli Manning or teams that would suit Manning the most based on the current QB situations.

Ewwww... why would they sign another aging, struggling quarterback?

Eli has been better than Flacco in almost every way this season but he isn't in their plans for next year. I wish we had the courage to move on from our own, formerly good, now terrible QB. I know the circs are different cause we're still in the playoff hunt but we don't have much to lose. It would be hard for us to get less out of the passing game.

Any other team and flacco would have been replaced by now. He is the liability in our team on both a play and cap level.
