Joe Flacco

Not crazy at all if you objectively look at the circumstances during those 3 years. Trestman, injuries(Joe and the team), poor receivers, etc., etc. all contributed to a lack of confidence and poor play. One can only imagine how things could be if there were a few years of capable consistency at OC, receiver and TE, basic things most high performing QBs have.

i think also we were seeing the impact of all the dead money we still had tied up in players who werent on the team or were sitting on i/r - that money is now being used to pay guys like willie snead and john brown

I don’t see any reason to cut or trade Flacco if he keeps it up. Worst case scenario you carry Joe and Lamar next year and can decide to let Joe go the year after or maybe trade Lamar for a bounty of picks or Joe for a bounty. All depends on how both look but Belichick made a career doing this. I’m not getting rid of Joe yet he’s playing too well.
We would not be cutting anyone for any reason whatsoever. Joe will definitely be here next year and as you said, we can make the decision at the end of 2019.

Well two things really. Flacco for all his problems at quarterbacking tells it as it is. And two, that you are not a nice guy.
It was actually a rhetorical question, but thanks for confirming you just don’t know. And thanks again as coincidentally I think the same of you.

Back to the most useful “ignore” feature.

Yeah no question that has helped a great deal. Funny thing though, the receiver we paid the most has contributed the least and it’s the “castoffs” Brown and Snead who are excelling.

he hasnt contributed the least - but he's been less of a slam dunk than the other two - he's filled his role well and we wouldnt be talking like this if he'd even caught 2 of his drops

Yeah maybe I phrased it incorrectly. “Least dependable” would be more appropriate. And I can’t claim to know much about Crabtree up to this point of his career, but doesn’t he seem really slow and sometimes lost? IDK, maybe it’s just me. I do really hope it’s just some sort of a slump or nick he has to work through and that he will become more of an asset.

he's always been an unorthodox looking player - he's led the league in drops over the last 4 years but partly that's due to high volume of targets but he also makes huge plays in the redzone as well as on critical downs and situations - there's a reason that teams dont keep him but theres also a reason teams keep giving him multi-year contracts

as for the way he moves - he's never been a burner but he has a unique route running style that's subtle but gets him open - he manoeuvres his way into the soft spot in the zone with a real knack and especially on fades and comebacks is really subtle with how he gets open against man

i think we all got a bit over excited about him as the leader of the receiver group but he doesnt have to be the leader of the group in our receiving corps with john brown and willie snead

with crabtree id say this: the drops are disappointing and hopefully that goes away a bit more as he gets used to the velocity that flacco throws the ball to him but he doesnt check out of games and comes up and makes plays - he's no maclin or wallace or perriman

I think the decision makes itself based on Joe's play and consistency. However, in my judgment he stays through till the dead money is palatable to the Ravens which is 2019 as well. To play beyond that needs for 2 things to happen. One Lamar Jackson's development is slow in practice and the coaching staff think he won't be good enough (I highly doubt that) and two, Flacco needs to keep winning, performing well and take us far into the playoffs each year.

But I agree with the premise of your thoughts.

If that second thing happens that is probably enough. There is no need to rock the boat needlessly

If Lamar develops to the point of being a backup qb, the Ravens can trade RG111 next year at the end of preseason. I don't see the Organization having a QB controversy, just some on here. Eventually Lamar may get a shot with a third tier team, much like the Ravens last backup QB.

I said it last week and I’ll say it again, very impressed with the offense and Joe, and how well he is spreading the ball around. Tim WHite had a catch even.

He seems very comfortable in the pocket, not ‘nervous about being hit. Moving nicely out of the pocket, stepping into the throws. Very impressive.

Man, Joe was flat out amazing. Good lord like this was a game when we should've wrecked them but Joe had some amazing throws today, very impressed and the OL did their thing.

I’m not disappointed in Crab at all thus far. He’s had some concentration drops but he ALWAYS comes back and makes a good catch to make up for it. He doesn’t drop nearly enough to worry. With some guys you’ve just gotta deal with 1 or 2 drops a game and I’m fine with that because he’s a good asset for the team.
