Joe Flacco

It’s a tough throw but it’s one of the best throws vs the tampa 2 - and not every qb can make that throw vs the tampa 2/cover3 - the best guy in the nfl recently at making that throw has been Matthew Stafford which I think says a lot about how arm strength and ball delivery play a significant part still in a qb’s overall upside in the nfl
Its gotta be that or a corner route (mostly) when its 3rd and 16 and Joe sticks it right in there (forgetting the fact that the pass was dropped).
There is another throw in that game where Joe hits Maclin down the seam against similar zone which I think is a good sign moving forward with Hurst. Also, not a lot of run after catch in 2017 and our new pass catchers will help in that regard vs. Browns..or Rams or anyone else who favors those coverages.

@rossihunter2 here is the Maclin throw. I really like the underneath routes here as well.

Our passing attack genuinely was effective when we were 4/5 wide - and we used it more as the year ended with Wallace, Moore, camp, Woodhead and Watson - I think we’ve probably upgraded every passing element of that grouping except maybe Woodhead which bodes well for continued use of 3 receiver sets

I saw something different in Joe's eyes during that presser that I hadn't seen from him in years to be honest.

To me, it seemed that he finally realized his own "starting QB-mortality" as he spoke about "drafting anyone in the 1st round means something! I don't know what that means etc." I don't care what anyone says; that move by the Ravens FO stung Joe. But, I'm excited to see how he responds this season. Hopefully, he'll finally be a beast that I've been wanting him to be!
He will be!

Flacco looked good and played well today!

I think we saw a little glimpse of how well Joe can play if he’s healthy and there’s some guys on the field that can run proper routes and actually catch the ball. Worrisome though was that they had to throw as much as they did because of the terrible run blocking. That game plan is not going to work against the better teams and will get Flacco killed.

I think the run blocking should improve as the line gets used to playing with each other (especially whenever we decide to start Brown at RT). Also, it seemed like there was a lot of holding calls yesterday on both teams which didn't help things.

In any case, Flacco looked great yesterday. If it wasn't pouring rain then things could have gotten even worse for the Bills.

I don't think this has a ton to do with the receivers. Yes, that Crabtree touchdown is probably not a touchdown yesterday, but they didn't really do anything super special to blow me away.

Instead, Joe was just absolutely on point. He was accurate, throwing off his front foot with velocity, moving well, and looked in command. He had a few passes that were dropped due to the rain that would have beefed his stat line even more, but only a handful of throws where he was off. He was on point for probably 90%, 95% of his passes.

What do you mean Crabtree’s touchdown is probably not a touchdown...?

It was clearly a catch?

they got open in ways that our previous receiving corps did not - the clear difference is that they complement each other and they have clear skillsets that allow them to get open in acres of space

There is fight in these receivers as a whole that I have not seen in recent memory.

The exception is Steve Smith of course.

I really can't wait to see this passing attack when Hurst makes his return. Andrews is improving on a weekly basis as he continues to get more playing time so I think he's going to make a deadly combo with Hurst (Maxx and Boyle also looked solid in their receiving duties yesterday). If Flacco can continue to spread the ball around then it's going to be a tough year for opposing defenses.

It's pretty much like night and day. Regardless of whether or not they are "superstars" pretty much all of the group assembled now can be depended upon to run the correct routes and will be where they are supposed to be, not pulling up, ducking contact or just walking through the motions. It's only one game but it seems that Joe may finally have some guys in which he can have some confidence. That said, it can't be stressed enough that he is also finally 100% healthy, moving and throwing in ways he is capable.

Yeah i thought it was a clear catch also
Perfectly thrown ball and Crab made a nice catch.
Did you notice him kick his leg up in the air before touching down? Not sure what that was about but it made it look a bit more "dramatic". lol

i think it was so he could start the momentum of his leg coming down so he could jump high but also have a better chance of getting the foot down - that would be my guess

yeah, maybe. Looked pretty odd though I couldn't care less. Whatever it takes!
