The 2020 Offseason Thread

Fully agree, I never felt in the slightest that he was gonna be anything special. The absolute most you could hope for from that guy was a peyton hillis like career, but I’d also say it’s extremely unlikely that he will ever put together a year like the one hillis had

Weird to say it considering how massive he looks, but he was pretty much the pure definition of a tweener. Not really big enough to be a fullback and not really agile enough to be a running back. Just kind of an in between guy with big muscles who beat up on guys that work at the gas station down the street now.

hes got some straight line build up speed, definitely too small, like not even close to big enough to be a lead blocker to compete with project pat, he hasnt shown the least bit of actual rb capabilities as far as hitting cutbacks and evading tacklers in the box by getting skinny in the gap or quickly accelerating upfield etc. and it would be a major leap to assume he could bowl over nfl tacklers the way he did in college.

he wasnt gonna make the roster as a fb, he wasnt gonna be a top 4 rb, and unless they cut justice hill and went 1 less TE and allowed him to step into a hurst like role as a FB/TE hybrid(despite not having the natural talents to do either at the nfl level), which is a huge project for a UDFA, he was never gonna make it.

Something else fun to think about... we really only have to cut 11 guys this year with the roster at 80 and an expanded practice squad to 16. Of course, those 16 will be cut and likely have to clear waivers (unless they're a vested vet which is allowed this year) and there's still the chance of outside additions, but not many guys are going to be out of jobs from here on out. If you're in a camp now, you have a better than 50/50 chance of sticking compared to other years.

And with that, you have more room for developmental guys on the PS as well. I know it's a tough year so you can't have too many because they might need to move up quite often, but you definitely have room for more guys with plenty of physical tools but not NFL ready.

I'd think we'll stack up heavily at OL and DB in particular for injury reasons.

Regardless of all of that, whoever wins that 5th CB spot is going to have to play ST and that puts Averett in a dangerous spot. I know he's struggled there. Haven't really gotten a chance to see Marshall but he could be a much better bet for CB5.

that's exactly why ive got marshall in and averett out based on the way the end of the season went (averett inactive and marshall playing on special teams)

I agree and that’s another reason as to why I think fluker is a dead lock for RG. The only realistic option other than Fluker is gonna have to go through the Harbs rite of passage for an OL first and learn 2 different positions starting as a rookie. And I don’t think bozeman, powers, or bredeson have the slightest chance to replace fluker right now

i think powers has a shot

I wonder why Boykin wasn’t there. Seems odd

could be all sorts of reasons - its not like it was a training session - just a bunch of young guys mucking around...

it might also be related to who lives close by to each other - i know boykin and justice hill spent some time together this offseason (maybe even live together - though not sure about that)

Only the first day of full team practice, but based on the pictures on the Ravens site, it looks like the OL is the following currently...

LT Stanley - LG Bozeman - C Mekari - RG Fluker - RT Brown
LT Holden - LG Powers - C Colon-Castillo - RG Phillips - RT Ehinger

I actually like that oline. Weve got some movers up front in the run game.

Really disappointed in how little Antoine Wesley did in the preseason, I thought for sure he was gonna end up on the 53

it was basically him vs jaleel scott (who also did nothing in the preseason and neither of them play special teams so it was always gonna be a long shot) - wesley is still a guy i like a lot as a developmental guy moving forwards - it would be great if we could keep him another year on the PS but we've got tons of young receivers that im not sure he's got even a remote chance at the 53 this year

special teams is the biggest thing holding him back from a chance at the back end of the roster - WR6 (if you keep 6) has to play special teams or be a talented guy you dont think you can afford to lose

that makes the most sense early in camp (we'll see if that solidifies or whether it changes but basically mekari subbing in for skura) - interesting that phillips is playing RG with Powers at LG on the 2nd team but that might be early in the offseason about acclimating Phillips to playing OL right-handed

positive signs though so far but we're so early especially with the ramp-up design to training camps this year we likely won't have any idea until the last week or 2 (or maybe not even until they announce the starters for week 1)

I wonder if Skura is going to have to miss the first part of the season while he's recovering.

I wonder if bozeman is there by default since he started last year.

Bozeman's starting somewhere - if skura was gone for good i think we might see bozeman at C but if Skura's going to be good to go (as is expected) then it makes sense to have bozeman stay at LG

the only logic to bozeman moving spots is if Skura's not expected to be ready to go
