Except he’s not, because he’s losing a shit ton of the yards he’s gained by being elusive after the catch.
If he only goes north after the catch, he’s making minimal gains and making up for a few yards lost, but he’s also losing the big chunk YAC plays that he gained by cutting back and making room to run. If he loses those plays, he’s not cracking top 5, he’s not even sniffing top 10.
YAC is what makes Zay a WR1, easy pitch and catch and making guys miss.

Honestly make it the default uniform. Fuck the cowboys were claiming white home jerseys.
I’ve always liked our white jerseys better, but the black helmet and pants look like asshole with the white jersey. The purple helmet and pants with the whites would be fucking FIRE

I get all that and he's doing a good job but I feel like quite a few times he didn't see the open space because his first worry is where and how to cut / juke the best.

He seems to prioritize moving the chains, but if the chains aren’t an immediate concern he will risk sacrificing a yard or two for the chance to gain another 10-20
What I don’t like is seeing him already plotting the YAC before he secures the catch and then he drops it. Happened against the jets and I feel like I’ve seen it 1 or 2 other times this year. Can’t have him doing that at all.
I'm with you. Love Zay. Want Zay making plays. But his first step in recent weeks has been backwards and it almost feels predetermined. I want him making moves but I also want him to read the field and see what's open.
he's clearly trying to create space so that he can read the space and find extra yardage
but the best guys in the game after the catch are the ones who transition upfield - the downside of zay's technique post-catch is that it allows chasing and backside defenders to gain ground on him - and it also reduces his chances of housing big plays because his first move gives defenders an advantage - and because he doesnt run a 4.2 or even 4.3, that time and space matters more
