The General Front 7 Thread

I saw an article on Baltimore Beatdown that said that our biggest mistake of the off-season was not paying Wagner over Williams and that our offensive failures are primarily on that, LOL.
That was the dumbest article I’ve seen in a long time. Wagner wouldn’t have fit and have they paid attention to our run defense without BWill

I supported this move from the get go and was thrilled we chose BWill over Wagner. Also had a feeling he would be playing more 3 tech this year.

its one of the few things that a mainstream media outlet got right that filmstudy got wrong - andy benoit of mmqb in the offseason spoke strongly about how good brandon williams was at 3 tech in subpackages on running downs especially with michael pierce at the nose - while filmstudy was adamant that williams had not been playing well at the 3tech spot and that it wasnt a great move to move him there more often necessarily

Ummm I was fine with Williams over Wagner when it happened actually.

if im brutally honest i thought financially we'd be better off without either lol - i was adamant we werent gonna keep williams and wagner got signed straight away so i was fully expecting a bare cupboard and 2 3rd round comp picks this year but im glad that didnt happen

I was a huge cravens fan but I never knew about his lack of commitment, that came as a surprise to me after seeing a video following his personal life where he trained and dieted like a madman.
The Skins GM said it was more about life incidents that popped recently

I remember thinking that there was no way BWill was coming back to BAL and I was okay with that for the most part (mainly because of having Pierce and Jernigan ready to go). I follow Matt Miller on Twitter and kept seeing him link BWill to the 49ers. I like Matt Miller, but he's also kind of a little shit, so I was happy to see him be wrong. Was not (and still am not) a huge fan of the contract size, but I (like most) almost never am.

I don’t think he played well in the 3T role last year. I’m sure you saw the article that @Filmstudy posted on rsr where he broke down all the players BWill played at 3T last year, That being said, it was new to him and I chalked it up more to a learning curve. With Wagner, I wasn’t a fan of paying that kind of money to a player that is a right tackle and not a good run blocker, especially one that wasn’t a fit in our current scheme.

I talked myself into liking the correa pick, but seeing now all of his problems in college are now problems in the NFL and he's made zero improvements, im just scratching my head wondering why the hell we picked him. It will never make sense to me. I thought he would have progressed and with some mental leaps he could be special but it's obvious that those leaps might not come, so right now it's like wtf were you looking for with that pick to pass on whitehair and Shepard for him

I get having rose tinted expectations for rookies, I remember swearing up and down that Art Brown was truth (before we drafted him) and getting burned. We drafted Correa because hes a high character, max effort guy, but hes proof you need more than work ethic to play in this league.

Everyone in their right mind saw Arthur brown as an excellent prospect, because he was. He just didn't give a shit about football enough to progress, which is probably a hard thing to determine when you're interviewing a guy to add to your football team lol

i dont know if he played bad but andy benoit was making these statements in the offseason before training camp which i find interesting if brandon williams wasnt playing well in the 3tech spot at the end of the season - obviously there was something on film that suggested he either was already or would become a wrecking ball at the 3tech

brown was a great prospect as an outside 4-3 OLB not an ILB in the 3-4.

also dont forget that after a decent rookie season he was going to start until the ravens decided to grab mosley and bring in a stud like daryl smith.

not everyone has the mental make up to deal with that.

btw i dont think there is any shame in not being able to beat out mosley and smith though.

All agreed, he was definitely more slim than you'd like, but he still played with stellar speed and perfect form, and he SEEMED like a smart and highly instinctive player on film, and yes his rookie year gave reason for optimism, he is the sole reason why I was so pissed off about us taking Mosley over HHCD, but hindsight 20/20 we obviously made the right call there. But back to brown, i seem to recall rumors circulating that questioned his passion for the game, something that kinda showed up on film, and with him being totally unable to progress mentally it seems that could've been exactly what the problem was

There were very few that agreed keeping Brandon was the right move. Most said Pierce could fill in fine and we should let BWill walk. Most of these same people also bitched about letting Jernigan go.
