the thing that jumps out about Zion is you can’t stop him, you can only hope to slow him down, he’s got this relentless downhill pursuit that goes through contact.

As he’s closing in on the qb/rb he’s disciplined enough to not whiff by coming in too hot and getting juked or blindsided by a block, he’s prepared to change course while never letting up on the pursuit, ALWAYS advancing and closing the gap between him and the ball. Very strong finisher

What I really love about this pick, is it’s a 2nd round edge who’s gonna get a heavy snap count right away, because he can do this. There’s never gonna be be a time where the coaches don’t want him out there because he’s a major run disruptor and can help us get ahead in the down and distance.

The foundational pieces of a really good player are already in place with Zion
and in terms of attitude, he only knows one way... he's all aggression and violence

he's got power and length to really challenge tackles - can really stack and shed guys in the run game and get into OTs chests to control them

his speed to power is so explosive and scary - if he can work off that power/long-arm more consistently to add counters and changeups, i think there's some real pass rush juice to unlock too on top of just the "run through a motherfucker's face" stuff

I know I am a fan of his so kinda biased, but he is someone I think could become one of the best in this class. He's got that dawg in him. I really love how he plays football, and it's a departure from the guys we have taken in the past like Oweh, Isaac, Williams, and Ojabo and others. I feel good about having Young and Green here as our youth.

I know he’s not at the same level and this is a highlight video but when watching this video I seen a lot of plays that reminded me of Maxx Crosby. Definitely plays with the same violence and motor.

I hear you, but I do think McPhee is more comparable because I think Zion is a more natural bender than ZDS was coming out.

It’s weird because McPhee was more of a DL coming out and ZDS was already an edge, but ZDS had more of a DL skillset than McPhee by the time they were both developed.

But Zion is definitely in the mold of either of those guys.

Clowney is another comparable one.

I loved those 3-rusher packs in 3-and-long, with McPhee inside. Really good stuff was coming.
Yes, if you take an observant approach, it reminds you of almost all the good rushers we've had.
The main thing is, sealing the border does the trick; the rest comes naturally.

Yeah I said it earlier but this guy does give me Crosby vibes. The TFL, the dog mentality, the anger he shows and plays with an “always angry” approach is so refreshing for this defense. I don’t think he is as athletically gifted as Crosby but they have a very similar approach to the game

That was exactly what I thought when I heard Young was #2 at the start of the day. I also gleaned that we tried to trade up for him unsuccessfully.

but i also think i much prefer the combination we ended up with by not getting Boston...

Young + Lane/Sarratt is a significant improvement on Boston + Barham

which is funny because this is exactly why EDC says it's normally not a good idea to trade up lol
because most of the potential outcomes are better when you stick and pick...

1) the player may fall to you anyway (what happened here)
2) the player you trade up for may not actually be better than the player that would have fallen to you
3) you lose the extra "at-bats" in a luck-driven process
