Can confirm that the draft went exactly how they were expecting yesterday, with the exception of Sarratt. He was one that they truly thought was the clear best player on the board so they took him. Plan heading into the day was Hibner at that spot, and that’s why they had no reservations about moving back up for him. A 2nd WR wasn’t necessarily in the plans. S was the position sacrificed.

Otherwise, these were all guys they targeted. They came into the draft with the plan to realign the offense and got a bunch of guys they feel are going to be able to do that.

Funnily enough because he’s the guy I was most unsure about, but it sounds like they really coveted Cuevas and were sweating him out. Almost pulled the trigger on him earlier but trusted their intel.
Sarratt is the best pick in our rookie class because we sacrificed the obligatory safety pick to get him

Thank you sarratt

I’m excited to see guys like Green, Zion, Lane, and Sarratt get a real shot to do what they do well, because Harbaugh was never about that, it was always “do everything well, follow the scheme, earn your keep on special teams” before you get a chance to just do what makes you a nfl caliber player

i agree with that 100%
lots of guys with slow starts to their careers because the coaches were square peg round holing them rather than focusing on roles that accentuate their existing skillsets (within reason of course)

the special teams thing i dont agree with - most coaches league-wide would rather the bottom guys on their roster contribute to their team

did your guy say anything about ja'kobi lane and how they envision him - that's still the guy i'm probably most confused about

Sarratt and Hibner make so much sense
Rivers makes sense albeit i dont see much of a route to playing time for him anytime soon
Cuevas i didnt agree with in terms of quality but i can at least see the vision
Eckley and Benny need no explanation either
Beertsen i understand too

lane i see the talent but i just dont really see the vision with Lamar and the offence - i guess i was wondering if your guy had any more detail on the process behind that player/pick

It's a role they want in the offense and they've got too many eggs in the basket of a Tez breakout. How I see it at least

I'm excited to see what we'll do offensively. I think we'll have so many attacking options in every formation/lineup.

I imagine speed, changes of pace, and why not, quite a few no-huddles.
I think it's going to be difficult for defenses to match up; they won't be able to just "fill the box" or press with only four players anymore.

I feel you might put way more stock into “Lamar wants guys that get wide open” than anyone else, and really they just wanted a guy who high points really well to have that as an option.

If Lamar is flushed and coverage rotates properly and nobody can get open, you’d still want a guy who can highpoint, we had it with likely and lost it.

it's not just about guys getting wide open
it's the types of routes they run

and specifically im talking about lane in that role - a guy who struggles to defeat press who projects to play x

Ngl i do think lamar wants guys that actually get wide open! Im sure its something he prefers! Yes occasionally he has thrown those high point passes to guys but its never been a consistent thing. Its like how people always mention borruw and his weapons ,not understanding that lamar doesnt throw those type passes for those two guys to even be successful with us.. im actually hoping that we use the new wrs similar to how bengals use their big guys. Those back shoulders and 5-10 outs along with the 1vs1 shots will make you respect our offense.

it's not even about wide open
but he'd rather throw to guys who are separators than throwing into contested spaces

he's not gonna throw a jump ball just because everyone's covered
he's going to try and create and have guys get open late or make a play himself with his legs - if the big guys on the outside want the ball, they're still going to have to uncover

what we should be using more is short quick throws on early downs (quick outs and slants) - i think sarratt will be great in helping achieve that

still not sure what jakobi's role will be other than to be the sacrificial x to clear space by running verticals

I think that is the honest expectation. I think a few things...

1. If we noticed this about Lamar, so has the league.
2. If the league noticed, so did Minter.
3. If you don't throw those throws, you do limit some plays.
4. I think we will ask Lamar to reduce his weaknesses by doing it.

If you think about it defensively, we do telegraph what we will do by what we won't do. And Minter has said he wants to bring out the best in Lamar. I definitely think this is something Lamar could do better, and it seems that's what we are getting ready to do (just a hunch)

We going to make Lane a TE so he is the first TE drafted so Hibner becomes elite. That's all you need to know

You can build around “our qb likes to do this” to a point, but you can’t limit the offense to not do those other things, nfl defenses won’t allow you to succeed, they WILL catch up to you eventually and force you to either do those things, or throw it where they are stacking up.

Yep, exactly. I think that was what Harbaugh didn't do well. He was a weird one. I'm so glad he is gone.
