I think there's a big reason when you look at the skill set of Lamar and Huntley.
The Ravens schemed short passes for Huntley because he straight up *couldn't* go deep consistently. He just didn't have the arm strength to consistently challenge vertically or get it there quickly. Lamar does.
The Ravens have always run a top down offense under Lamar where Lamar works deep reads down. Lamar has the athletic ability to buy time for those reads to come open and the ability to challenge those throws vertically.
Now, I'm sure a lot of this has to do with Lamar simply liking to go deep with consistency. We see it a lot that Lamar will go for it all if he thinks he has a window to go deep.
But we know he can work in that short to intermediate area. One of the things that encouraged me about rookie Lamar as a passer is that his throws over the middle from the 10-15 yard range led the league in completion percentage at over 70%. Lamar has always been a really good intermediate passer and he additionally loves his tight ends. It's been a big reason Andrews has worked so well here.
Why did the Ravens install such different looks for Huntley, but then not use them with Lamar? I'm not sure. It's no secret that Huntley works really well when the game is close and manageable. If the game ever got out of hand, Huntley didn't have the ability to challenge a defense and bring the Ravens back into the game. So, it isn't an offense the Ravens would want to lean on consistently.
But why not incorporate those looks more frequently for Lamar? I imagine it's a bit of leaning on Lamar's preference to be a down field passer and also a bit that the Ravens felt they needed to challenge deep to keep the defense honest.
In any case, I do hope those rhythmic type of throws become a higher emphasis under Declan.
