The Q4 Heroics, the Tackling, and the Season is Over

I want him gone and a vet kicker. I was fine with him until this kick, I promise he never recovers and I'll never forgive him regardless. Learn accounting loop boy.
Kind of reminds me of the Steve Hauschka thing here years ago. Missed some important kicks here. We let him go and he went on to have a pretty good career. A new team will help him forget.

I suppose @Simba can comment more if he knows, but Loop had, and it's not close, the strongest leg of the draftable kickers. He wasn't the most accurate or precise, but I get the feeling the Ravens felt they could teach accuracy, not the leg strength.

When Tirico started talking about Tucker and the Ravens picking Loop for moments like this, my heart sank. I don't believe in jinxes and somehow I knew it was over.

Ball was dead center and he just... shanked it. And it was a super makeable distance.

Struggled from distance (which should have been his area), struggled with accuracy in general, and was abysmal on kickoffs.

I suppose the Ravens will hope they can have a Stout like ramp up, but there isn't a shortage of kickers who could have made that kick in the league. The Ravens will very much bring someone in to compete.

Yeah, but he also has all of those kickoffs out of bounds this season. Those are inexcusable.

Still a rookie. I don't think college kickoffs are similar to NFl kickoffs atleast not after they made some changes. Sometimes it just take time for a rookie to adjust. If the ravens feel like Loop needs competition then I'm sure they will bring in competition but outside of that in not really mad at Loop . It is what it is. Hope he takes this situation as big learning experience and grow.

Exactly that. They fell in love with the thing you can’t teach, and felt they could improve the things they can.

The leg strength doesn't make sense either considering hes struggled from distance and come up short before

Truth be told, I turned off the game after the Muth had the big completion into our RZ when we were up 17-13. I knew what time it was. Probably would've crashed out if I saw this miss live.

You have to get another kicker at the very least because he hasn't been really good with kickoffs either as many mentioned. I REALLY would've liked us to make the playoffs even if it meant being one-and-done, but if this the catalyst for some needed changes, this loss won't hurt too bad. We were doomed from not only the 1-5 start, but the Panthers winning the division (@JO_75 , you know what I'm talking about).

If we STILL can't adequately address this pass-rush this time around, then I don't even know what to say.

I’m not saying you don’t bring in a guy, I mean it was a big moment but Tucker kicked a 49 yarder in the Divisional in good rookie year to win it, but there’s clearly enough talent there to warrant keeping him around.

Now on Loop...

Guys. Loop missed a 22 yard FG in college. With a perfect snap and not blocked.

He's ass. He's always been ass. He couldn't do a kick off to save his life. This was always going to happen and shame on Decosta and Randy Brown
I want Loop gone but Idk how much to make of that one kick in college. I mean did he make all the other kicks?

I only kept watching because its the last game of the season.

If we're getting rid of Harbaugh I'm assuming it would be fairly quick right? Gives us the chance to interview some of the top guys??

That's worse! That means they saw a guy with terrible mechanics and said yep he's our guy for this team with SB aspirations.

I said that the moment we drafted him. On day 3 I said wtf are we doing?
I’ll go back on record and say I thought we should have said fuck the leg strength and signed Nick Folk. Beyond him though… not like there was some bevy of better options out there. Teams were cycling through kickers this year trying to find anything worthwhile.

I talked about this with regards to Tucker, but I think of it like golf in a way.

Some guys can absolutely whack a ball and get some crazy distance, but they have zero control over where they drive the ball. They're just throwing full body into it without regard for where the ball goes.

Then you take the time to slow it down, clean up your swing, and focus on driving straight and the ball doesn't go as far as you're just focusing on making sure it's straight.

With time, you can put the strength behind the drive and keep it straight, but it's a process.

Perhaps Loop needs time to marry the two. I don't know. What I do know is that this season was very disappointing given he struggled from distance, as you said.

Yep and Nick Folk would've sent you to the playoffs guaranteed

Loop's longest Kick this season was 52 yards!!! Tied for 33rd best in the NFL. Meanwhile you got other Kickers making 50+ look easy.

Yeah his story is not over. I actually liked the thought process behind their plan to develop him, but it all felt meaningless with this miss.

If there was one criticism I’ve had all year, it was treating him with kid gloves. Never really pushed him with any real competition in camp. And felt like they never really trusted him from distance so never really gave him the opportunity to try it, even when it made sense.

What I can say though… I know he’s hit from 75 in practice. And that was with a live rush. So there’s no reason to throw in the towel.
