2026 DB Thread

first look it seems like a pretty strong DB class

some fun safeties and nickels

with the lack of depth overall - possible that we get a bunch of DBs at the back end of R1
For sure. Really curious to see what we do with both Humphrey and Awuzie because this could be a lowkey need.

Would a change at DC and an improved pass rush help the DBs? Having one of the worst performing pass rushes this past season makes it very difficult on corners

It's hard to say, the trend is to press with 3 or 4 players and the rest cover specific areas.

And those 3 or 4 players who can press effectively aren't all that high-quality.
It depends on individual abilities and coaching.
If speed is needed...

Devin Moore not being spoken about anywhere - and nowhere reputable even seems to have even a basic draft profile

6'3 195lbs and he's super fluid and explosive
had some injuries the last 2 seasons but... dudes with the combination of traits and tape don't normally last long into the draft and yet don't see him being mentioned anywhere as one of the top CBs in the class

right now for me he's CB5/6 easily

Indiana corner looked real smooth in drills. Athletic to the Nth degree, too. His game is awesome, might be the ultimate slot guy and isn't a slouch out wide either.

The 5’9” dude? Can’t remember his name right now but yeah he’s a playmaker, think he’s gonna go earlier than I’d wanna take a 5’9” corner though. He’s probably gonna mostly be in the slot and we have an army of guys who can excel in the slot

Yes that’s the one. That boy nice for sure, I just don’t see a spot for him here unless he pushes out another similar player, like ardarius Washington.
I watched him vs Bama, dude is a proper baller. If they want to keep Marvin as a movable piece.... give me Ponds every time.

I don't think we've talked enough about the possibility of Delane or McCoy at 14
We haven’t talked about it here but I’ve been trying to talk my son out of Delane being the guy for a few weeks now. I can see CB being BPA but I just can’t get behind ANOTHER secondary player in round one. That’s supposedly Minters specialty, so let’s get the ROÍ from what we’ve already invested there and build the trenches

need delane to do some testing, especially now that he's come in sub 6'0 and with shorter arms

but mccoy's special - only reason he's not considered a top 5 lock is because of the injury that kept him out of 2025

mccoy's top 6 on my board right now pending pro day testing putting a tick in the box

got to have the trench players to draft

i've got 1 trench player in my top group of talent in the draft this year: reuben bain jr

the next tier has mesidor (who may fall for injury and age reasons) and mauigoa and fano

there's a ton of EDGEs and some DL in the class - but i'd say the majority of them start having value later in R1 and more likely into R2 and runs all the way through R3 (it's a really deep EDGE class)
there's lots of OL talent in the class too but again i'd say the sweet spot there is R2 to early R3

you don't turn down elite talents at premier positions even if it's not a trench player - i'd say the likelihood is pretty high that BPA at our pick is WR or DB - obviously Bain's the dream

Havent watched any McCoy's tape.. but if he's that good and is fully recovered from his injury,

Wiggins and McCoy on the outside, with Marlo and KHam on the inside... I can dig it.

It's just gonna be a hard sell to spend another high draft capital on a player coming off an injury.

EDC gotta be really comfortable in his seat if he does that... and that dude been looking stressed this off-season.

i think if he's team-building out of fear then Bisciotti should have fired EDC when he fired Harbs - and should have got rid of the whole front office too - i think bisciotti made it pretty clear in the post-firing presser that he thinks EDC is great and on the right path
i think there's been a lot of projecting from the fanbase about the security of EDC's job - he doesn't need to "sell" anything

everyone's going to complain regardless of if we pick DB, WR, LB (anything other than OL/DL)

Chris Johnson from San Diego State would be a great second round pickup. He's got amazing movement skills, and can mirror just about anyone. Also very quick decision making when going for the ball. He's not particularly physical which is one notable hangup with him, but he's a guy that can start day one across from Wiggins.

Big fan of his. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him sneak into the first for a cb needy team. I’m not keen on a cb at 14, don’t think value aligns there, but IF Chris johnson is there at 45 there’s a decent chance that he’s somewhere close to BPA, secondary would be crazy if we paired him with Wiggins.

Bud Clark from TCU is a safety to keep an eye on for our 3rd or 4th round pick. Super athletic, is a jack of all trades, and very decisive. I think he's someone you could throw into the fire as a starter early as he develops. Also another safety that can play deep let's everyone else be that much more aggressive.
