Next Up: @ Dolphins

And I don't think we'd go with Lamar out there on 4th and 5 on the CHI 39 with a 3 point lead either. I think that's either FG or Punt in all instances.

that's a circumstance where most teams's data would say that's a go

but my point about relitigating is that no one's complaining about the decision to go on 4th and 2 from the bears 36 while up 1 point because it was successful (in fact most people don't even remember the play)

And because its the right call, almost every time. Maybe Cooper Rush in a monsoon you punt.

that was the one that surprised me
he was "proved right" because the punt was excellent, followed by an INT

but i still think it was the wrong choice in the moment

it's also not like we didn't go for it on 4th down in other situations, it's just that people don't really relitigate go decisions when they're successful and not necessarily obviously "key" plays
I feel like this is a bit too analytics driven. The general feel of how the game is going matters an absolute shit ton in these situations.

Our defense has finally been playing well, we were efficient on the day but we came up short on damn near every 3rd down in the red zone, we don’t have our starting qb, and that was not a favorable down and distance considering our limited playbook for the day. If we couldn’t convert those 3rd downs in the red zone then there should be very little confidence to convert that one.

The way our defense was playing late in Buffalo, we had Lamar, we should’ve went for it. The way our defense was playing and the overall lack of ability to convert crucial third downs on Sunday, we should’ve punted.

Might sound like hindsight with the Buffalo call failing us and the bears call working out, but to me it feels obvious. If the punt was average and the defense failed there I would’ve still said punting was the right call.

So your point is you gotta have a feel for the game, something Harbs lacks .

I'm very nervous about our DL depth with B-Wash getting surgery. @Simba , how you think they'll address this for Thursday's game? PS call ups? Will Lawson be ready?

I’d have expected Rucker or Hamm last week and they opted for Bryan instead. I think they’d like Lawson sooner rather than later but he’s also only got 2 walkthroughs and 1 light practice under his belt right now. I’m guessing they’ll do Bryan again but that’s just opinion with no info.

As for the game itself, I really appreciate Lamar seemingly get the team back to focus. But if there's anything we know about Dolphins games in the Lamar era, they're gonna be epic one way or another: epicly awesome on offense (2019, 2023), epic collapse (2022), or epicly incompetent coaching and execution (2021).

Nervous AF.

Couldn't agree more. Positive momentum or lack thereof always needs to be taken into account. No game or situation is ever the same, and the stats are not capable of reflecting the differences. It should be more of a reference point rather than a determining calculation.

If Cleveland can blow them out…

I'm also curious to see if Wiggins shadows Waddle since it was reported that he asked the coaching staff to shadow Adams.

I have the Week 9 thread already up and running for Sunday, but thought I share the Ravens-Dolphins Preview here!

Baltimore Ravens @ Miami Dolphins: Both squads are coming off much-needed victories, the Ravens handled the Bears to get back on track, while the Dolphins stunned the Falcons in an upset win. The real headline here is the return of Lamar Jackson. After missing time with an injury, the Ravens’ star quarterback is back as we know everything starts and ends with Lamar Jackson in Baltimore. We know what the Ravens offense can do with Lamar Jackson as he threw 10 touchdowns and only one interception prior to his injury, and if the past two games are any indication, Baltimore may have figured out their defensive woes. Holding the Rams & Bears to under twenty points consecutively is a sight many Ravens fans are glad to see in hopes the bleeding will stop on defense. While Miami's offense finds ways to create explosive plays despite the loss of Tyreek Hill, it may be the Dolphins defense that ends up being the story as their pass defense is exactly what Lamar Jackson and the Ravens offense needs to remind the NFL of why the Ravens will always be the team you don't want to play in January.
