Hall of Famer
Week 8 of the NFL Regular Season is upon us, and with the trade deadline looming in a couple weeks we will find out shortly who are buyers, and who is selling at the trade deadline. Games this week are ok, only a few standout like Aaron Rodgers playing his old team in the Green Bay Packers... ok that's the only game that truly stands out this week. Let's get into it...........
Thursday Night Football
Vikings @ Chargers: This was supposed to be the Michigan 2023 National Championship Game reunion between Jim Harbaugh, Jesse Minter & J.J. McCarthy. Jim Harbaugh coaching against the QB who he won a National Championship with, and vice versa. With McCarthy still out, Carson Wentz gets another start for Minnesota in what should be a historic night for Justin Jefferson. With forty more yards, Jefferson will be the third player to hit 8,000 yards in his first six seasons. The Chargers meanwhile find themselves on a bit of a rough stretch losing 3 of the last 4 games including a beat down by the Colts last week at home. Chargers may get a big boost to their offensive line if OT Joe Alt returns to the lineup, he is currently listed as questionable. With both teams looking to get back in the win column, this should be a good game and a good test for both as they look to remain competitive in the playoff race in their respective conferences.
Sunday 1PM Early Games
Dolphins @ Falcons: The Atlanta Falcons return home to host the dysfunctional Miami Dolphins who have lost three in a row coming into this game. Tua played possibly his worst game of the year throwing three interceptions and getting benched for rookie quarterback Quinn Ewers in the fourth quarter. The Dolphins front office will continue sinking with Mike McDaniel for the meantime, but Tua will remain the starter in Miami.... for now. As for the Falcons, if they needed a get right game following a road loss to the 49ers, this is it. The Dolphins have one of the worst run defenses in the league under former which will allow Bijan Robinson to have a field day against them, while Atlanta's pass defense is number one meaning if Tua was looking for redemption, he isn't getting it here.
Bears @ Ravens: This week is do or die for the Baltimore Ravens and John Harbaugh as they host the Chicago Bears and have a short week heading to Miami next Thursday Night. Sitting at 1-5 and a favorable schedule, the Ravens must take advantage of it and go on a run in order to have a shot at winning their third straight AFC North Title. The Ravens went from averaging 40 points per game to just a combined 13 points in the last two games without him. Maybe holding Matthew Stafford & company to under twenty points was what Zach Orr and that Ravens defense needed to build momentum heading into the bye. The Bears seemingly have all the momentum winning four in a row and sitting at 4-2 near the halfway point of Ben Johnson's first year with the team. They are banged up and that is something to watch as it could lean in the Ravens favor if D'Andre Swift or DJ Moore doesn't play.
Jets @ Bengals: As Joe Flacco continues his tour around the AFC North, Joe once again plays a team he used to play for in the New York Jets. The Jets are a complete mess under Aaron Glenn as they remain the only winless team left through seven weeks. Aaron Glenn has refused to name a starting quarterback for this game against the Bengals, so who knows whether it will be Justin Fields or Tyrod Taylor. Flacco led the Bengals to a upset win over Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers last week, and despite the distraction of Logan Wilson asking for a trade the Bengals should have no problem winning this one.
Browns @ Patriots:
Giants @ Eagles:
Bills @ Panthers: For Sean McDermott, he returns to Charlotte where he was the defensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers before taking the Bills Head Coaching job. The Buffalo Bills fresh off their bye week look to turn things around as they are on a two game losing streak and find themselves in a tight AFC East battle with the Patriots. Unfortunately for the Bills, they are running into the Panthers at a time where they have found a two headed rushing attack which is the heart of the defensive issues for Buffalo. This will be crucial to limit the damage Josh Allen can do on offense and keep him on the bench as much as possible. Carolina has already pulled off one upset against the Dallas Cowboys this season, can they once again pull off a upset, or will Buffalo find their way back in the win column?
49ers @ Texans: The San Francisco 49ers head to Houston to take on their former Defensive Coordinator DeMeco Ryans and the Houston Texans. Once again, Brock Purdy is out so that means another start for Mac Jones as the 49ers are finding out what life could have been like if they had drafted Mac Jones instead of Trey Lance.
