Welcome to Baltimore: Aeneas Peebles

Don’t understand how he was a 6th rounder, he’s too refined, nfl teams should have loved him. There’s 8 year vets who don’t use half of his disengage techniques.

If he stays healthy and doesnt play himself out of our price range, he’s gonna be a raven for a long time, and go down as one of our best value picks ever.

I have full faith in peebles being a monster, my eyes were glued to him in preseason because he kept showing up
EDC or Harbaugh (I can't remember who) came out and said directly that he didn't meet the size requirements, but it got so late in the draft and he was still available and they were willing to overlook that because of the talent. I'd guess a lot of teams were in the same boat based on his fall. I'm glad we opted not to box ourselves in.

if you're going to be that small as a DL, you've got to be a ridiculously explosive athlete if you want to be drafted high (see Calijah Kancey)

i had a 3rd round grade on Peebles which was maybe too high given the size benchmarks

but these arbitrary profile benchmarks do still seem to be the undoing of a bunch of nfl teams at certain positions (especially interior OL)
lots of talk about arbitrary minimums for size and length and yet a ton of later round/udfas succeed at C and G spots because actually arm length is not the be-all-end-all and instincts, get off, and timing are more important in winning leverage

so i guess it's not necessarily completely different for DL although that does seem like an "attack" position where explosion and raw athleticism matter more

i guess IOL, LB and S might be more aligned in that sense - and probably why you see more late rounders and udfas as those positions too i guess

long story short, i'm excited about the role Peebles can play for us, even as a rookie on a rotational basis

I don’t think size benchmarks are necessarily a bad thing as long as you’re willing to evaluate a player for who he is and how the tape looks and not always the measurements. Good barometer to start with but can’t ignore the outliers.
