2026 QB Thread

Ravens might be on the lookout to upgrade at backup QB.

Lots of hype about this class early in the season, a lot less hype around this QB class now.
Some of the bigger names have already committed to going back to school for 2026.

Obviously the more guys who go high, the better for the Ravens.
The fewer guys who teams convince themselves can start, the better for the Ravens' chances of acquiring a promising prospect as a potential backup QB to develop.

Fernando Mendoza vs Dante Moore tonight

Will be interesting to see how that goes but i'd be shocked if it's anything other than a pretty dominant Indiana win...

I'm usually a proponent of taking a swing on a QB in the mid-late rounds but I don't think there's anyone I even see as worthy this year. A lot more name value than actual substance. Feels like it's Mendoza--> (big gap) Simpson --> (big gap) the rest.

not done much work on the mid-to-late round options

Taylen Green and Cole Payton were the two guys from the senior bowl that made me want to take a look given the tools they've got
drew allar was someone ive been intrigued by since he didnt declare last year but not done any study yet

Taylen Green feels like Devin Leary 2.0 - a lot of arm talent but no ability to harness it and know where it's going.

Allar is probably my QB3 but I don't see a ton of separation from guys like Payton, Beck, Nussmeier, etc.

There have been some weak QB classes but I'm not sure I've ever felt this low on the mid-late round guys.

i like beck - i dont think he's a fit for the ravens but i do like him as a mid-round option somewhere

right now beck's my QB3 but only because i've only watched 3 QBs so far lol

this is a really weak QB class - and interestingly it could (and maybe should) have been even worse if Allar, Nussmeier and Beck declared last year - of those 3 i think only beck has actually improved his draft stock and the other two have definitely had their value depreciate over their extra year of college maybe not more than the NIL money they will have made but still... feels like they made mistakes

Agreed. Beck is the true representation of NIL - getting paid a mint to stay in college and there was really no negative impact on his draft situation. Allar and Nussmeier got paid but also are going to go significantly lower than they would have last year so they definitely cost themselves some money.

I will say, I do think there are things to like with Beck, Allar, Nussmeier, Klubnik, and a couple of other guys as well. Just feels like usually I've got guys in those range that I could see as starters with development but so many of these guys feel backup as a ceiling to me. Also not sure there are a ton that fit the Ravens either.

normally there's a mobile guy or two im high on as a potential QB2 specifically for the ravens (hence my, at a glance, interest in green and turner)

but you're right that we've had much more interesting years recently

I’ve read you guys talk about someone who fits the Ravens. This isn’t a loaded question nor is it passive aggressive but is that QB prototype still the same for us? With a whole new coaching staff and QB and OC, I somewhat wonder if we’re looking at the mobile QB backup like we have in years past.

To some extent, yes. I don't see Lamar ever being a pure pocket passer and we just tried a statue with Cooper Rush and that was a disaster. Just takes away so many of the options in the playbook to go to someone so starkly different. I don't think we need a pure runner but we need someone with the athleticism to get out of the pocket at least, in my opinion.

i think we saw this year that unless your backup fits within the same basic system as your starter then the backup is going to be set up to fail (a la cooper rush)

now that doesnt necessarily mean they have to be a QB run guy (although that's a really useful tool for a backup) but they do need to be able to be mobile and creative

I hear you both. What I am saying is that I'm not sure it will remain the same with Minter & Doyle. It almost sounds like they want to get away from the running (at least, decreasing it), which could mean we have less value for someone like Tyler Huntley and could value more someone like Cooper Rush (but not him). This is more a curiosity than a suspicion.

I don't think so, but who really knows. Doyle still had mobile QBs in Chicago - maybe not running QBs, but mobile. There's a lot of statuesque pocket passers in this draft and I just don't see them being a fit.

sure maybe not QB run
but pocket mobility is the biggest equaliser

and qb run does raise the floor for your offence as a backup

ravens and monken wanted to get away from the QB run - still huntley ended up being a better option than rush

I haven’t checked into any of the QB this draft but if you’re saying they’re Tom Brady with pocket mobility (or worse, because Brady wasn’t that bad) then yeah maybe not a great fit. I also think that Monken did try to get away from it but the problem seemed to be the way the team was setup made it more not possible since we banked on Lamar being able to extend time with his pocket mobility. I could see less emphasis on running in a backup and a lot of emphasis on pocket mobility though.
