Stop bidding my guys up!

I think it depends on the team, too. For instance, I'm the Chargers this year. They have an aging QB with a closing window. While building for the future is certainly part of the plan, I'm not going to be out here looking for the heir apparent at QB. I'm building to compete in the short window while also having an eye to the future.

If the Chargers were on the brink and had a need at LT, I'd consider making a move like that. It's just hard to justify with Watson on a rookie deal and the Texans still having a large window. Just comes down to the differences in how to play.

The hardest justification for me would be that Hopkins turned into Staley +. As mentioned before, it's certainly your prerogative, but man, I could just never see myself trading Hopkins. I'll figure out LT some other way lol

But it's all in what you make it. This game certainly isn't over and you have plenty of time and resources to continue to improve that team.

This is basically what I was getting at as a whole, worded far better and more extensively.

Every team needs a mix of veterans and young players. Who says that my picks won't still be spent on quality offensive line players? I still have a first, second, third, fifth and seventh round picks. Most people on this board tend to overvalue their players and my experience has been that very few people are willing to trade OL players. I like the challenge of building an OL and I have done a great job taking Houston's dumpster fire OL and turning it into a top 10 or top 5 unit. Most of the OL players are young and on reasonable contracts. Staley is a bit of an exception but will be able to groom the younger players that I draft. Look at the defense on this team. What offense can score more than about 14 points against these guys?

It can be hard to get OL guys away from people, and everyone overvalues everyone during negotiations. Definitely respect where you are coming from, and sorry if it came off differently. I just saw it as a weird move for your team.

I understand the move in principle. Staley has been a bedrock for over a decade at LT. That oline is significantly improved. But I don’t understand the Hopkins move.

@Simba @RavensMania have to admit though. Now that he’s not on the niners Staley might not retire now.

As you all know, it is very difficult for a team to not have any holes. Sure, I'd love to have Hopkins as would any team. However, the Hopkins trade allowed Houston to fill many deficiencies on their team. So, we're down at wide receiver but better everywhere else, especially along the OL. The key to winning in the nfl is not to have the best player at WR, but to have as close to the best OL and DL as possible, in my opinion. You win in the trenches. If you don't have good lines, then it really doesn't matter how good your skill position players are. And actually, the Hopkins trade turned into Staley, Marpet, Chung, Olsen and picks. We can always draft a WR.

I mean Hopkins is an elite WR. But I’d take a good cohesive oline over a WR anyways. Unless it’s like a super duper stud like a Megatron was.

This, to me, is the biggest reason why I don't completely fault the trade. OL, DB, and EDGE reign supreme in this game. WR/TE, LB, and DL typically run middle of the road. QB and RB get no love.

Got to if I want to go to bid off for him.***

Oh, sorry, you meant Williams. He was always an option, since I was sure Brown will go for an unholy dollar amount.

Lol yeah I had no expectations of actually winning him. Just wanted you to know that you killed my non-existent dreams.
