The Random Thought Thread

I'm not a Lamar hater by any means, but I think he's a little ways away. Which gives me a lot of hopd actually. But if Lamar doesn't become a much better pocket passer by 2 years time, I think we're all going to miss Flacco. I think post 2012 Flacco has shown us that when he's healthy and has talent he is an above average quarterback. And when he's hurt and surrounded by no one he's below average. Regardless at the end of the day, you can win with Flacco, I hope we get to say the same thing about Lamar.

watching joe sling it for real and healthy made me remember how nice a ball he throws - one of the nicest looking spirals in the league

Nobody can convince me that Flacco isn't motivated by Jackson.

Motivated and a cause for any improvement are 2 different things. Flacco has looked great since we first saw him 5 weeks after Lamar was drafted. If it were that easy to build speed power and move more fluidly every QB would be all pro. His improvement is clearly due to being healthy and denying that is like saying "I believe the earth is flat and you can't convince me its not"

Thank the schedule gods we don't play the Rams this year.

Not too happy about playing the Broncos in 2 weeks, but at least we have extra time.

If I was to make a list, I don't think that would be the main reason for his play being better. Probably 4th or 5th on the list.

The wrs are obviously much improved. The OL is better, even though they played pretty well as the season progressed last year and he's healthy. There's also the fact he's making decent change the upcoming years.

Roman Morninhweg yr two versus changing the coordinator yr in and yr out is also a plus. Consistency breeds success. The scheme and talent around him is much better. Add this to his health and voila

Yup. When Hurst is back we actually have personnel that can cause mismatches. Can't wait to see what Marty cooks up considering what he was able to do at the end of last year. For the first time in a while the offense should be fun to watch if we can get the run game going.

That's the big if. This happens, we have a chance to win the conference not just the division.

Im just happy to see receivers get consistently open on offense that is what the team has struggled with since that last super bowl run. This receiver room may be the best this franchise has ever had.

Having 4 or 5 decent receiving options that can actually run correct routes immediately makes the entire offense better. I'm not so sure yet about the O line improving..... While Yanda returned losing Jensen has left a hole that has not yet been filled and Howard was actually decent at RT last year. Hoping there is overall improvement there but that remains to be seen.

Reasons #1 and # 2 for improved play from Flacco are health and experience. As was mentioned there's also a bit of consistency now at OC and finally adding a dedicated QB coach(which I think most teams have) has been key. But it's a long season and hopefully Joe is consistently good on into and through the tournament.

Jensen was a big loss, but Brown should be better than Howard whenever he fully grasps the playbook and gets the starting RT job. We'll just have to wait and see how they do once that finally happens. Yanda is still playing at a high level so there's potential for the line to be better overall than last year even without a great C.

when hurst comes back i think teams are not gonna be able to key on the run so much which should open things up for a guy like collins to work in some more space
When hurst comes back? Are we really expecting this much of an impact with him? havent really seen him play yet outside of preseason.

I believe he is going to have an immediate impact, when he is 100%, or atleast close to it. He is a terrific route runner with great hands and can block.
